Bored at work /b/ on a frac site in Big Lake TX. What does /b/ do for a living. Also how much you make? Me 74k -100k depending on OT
>>
>>735042019
Mechanical engineer in research and development. Employed, working 35-50hr / week, making 75k plus Bonus. 30 Days of vacation + national holidays and holiday allowance, incl. full healthcare..
>>
>>735042204
Nice, I need to go back to school. Currently learning visual studios for programming
>>
>>735042383
nice plan /b/ro, hold on to that and I'm sure you will make some nice money later on....
>>
Dont know what is the english word, but google translate tell me this : switchman.

So, im a switchman for trains, i basically decide where they goes, wich railroad to take, order of trains..

I dont know how many hours i work per week because sometimes i can work only 3 days then 2 free days (can be assimilated as a week-end) and sometimes i can work 6 days in a row. I take my shift in morning, evening or night (5-13/13-21-21-5)

Currently making 25k$ (with current currency).
>>
>>735042792
Wow that's low for the railroad I always thought those guys made bank$$$
>>
>>735042970

Depending the country. I dont earn that much of money if i want to compare with other job, but i earn enough to live well without need anything or feel the lack of money.

Also have to take in count that there's different lvl of qualification, (A to H, im currently C, so not that high). But a guy around E or F can earn around 45k$/year.

But im not interested for more money because means more work at the work station. I prefer earn less, but working less. Hehe.
>>
>>735043244
I feel ya. But I like to be able to buy what I want when I want. Plus I have 3 kids so that takes a lot of it.
>>
>>735042019
This is the closest to home that I've ever seen a post. Not real home but I caught a lot of jobs in ozona.

Blackjack dealer in bars I make $15/h

>>
IT & digital security consultant for a major company.
Work mostly from home, $43/h and a bonus for every finished project.
>>
>>735045189
Care to share some more details. Would be interested in that line.
>>
Bud light promo guy
25-40/hr depending on contract.
>>
>>735042019
I'm a oil and gas consultant a bit further up north. With current rotation I'll make 175k/yr.

Plus I don't have to get dirty anymore.
>>
>>735045314
>more details
Sure.
Worked IT for about 4 years as a technician, got promoted to head of my IT department (small time cellphone company) and then got an offer to consult for one of the major companies in my city.
I accepted.
As to what I do, I get called in to fix problems. That's the basic.
Last month I gave advice on new security installments and this month I'm overlooking the upgrading of all their systems which of course brings on a huge number of problems.
Sounds complicated, but mostly I'm at home with remote access to they systems.
>small corrections
>writing some basic code
>fixing drivers
>making sure the dipshit IT department doesn't fuck up
A work day for me is between 2-3 hours (with full 8h pay) a normal day and 10-12 hours (with added pay) for difficult projects.
>>
>>735045666
>>735045666
Your trips command you give me a job. Or contact info of some kind. I too am tired of getting dirty. Help me out /b/ro. At least tell me how you moved up.
>>

Or at least the company name or a company that you would recommend.

I know a company called coil tubing is hiring hands right now. There are dozens of company's in the areas I mentioned. Just apply
>>
>>735046069
Leave Frac. It's stupid hard to climb the ladder in frac. Get on a coil unit or workover rig.
Stay in the same field or at least the same state most the time. I got this job because I knew the field and the high ups have known me for years.

Network, take your bosses out drinking or golfing. Become their friends, I got picked over another guy with more experience because one of the other consultants hated him.

I was in flowback for 6 years. Now I'm a flowback/production consultant. If I had more downhole knowledge I'd be able to be a completions consultant and make over 200k.
>>
Slightly related, I'm in school right now studying chemistry. Does anyone know what kind of money I can make if I don't go into teaching? Decentish college, doing well in classes.

>>

Right on thanks man. I'm in water treatment. But my company is small. I just need to rub elbows with the right ppl I guess?
>>
>>735046588
Coil tubing services or Coil tubing solutions?

If so go for the latter. The same guy started both, but after Services got big he sold it to Shlumberger. They both go by CTS though, because coil tubing is a type of equipment, not a company name
>>
>>735047106
That won't happen. Also if it does I have the opportunity to go overseas for a month at a time. Don't want to but if it comes to that I will.
>>
>>735047113

Pretty much man. I just had the right consultant that knew me from years ago. He wanted to hire another consultant so he could shorten his hitch and recommend me

Absolutely not pointless keeping track of our nature.
But yes can be lonely. But I prefer it that way. Just me and nature.

Yes? The bear is one of the most researched animals here in Sweden.
We have over 800 scientists keeping track of them. They are extremely important to wildlife, keeping the natural balance in order.

Listen here special Ed. Since you seem completely obsessed with bears (which is about 10% of my work) I'll explain.
As I wrote I keep track of water and ground pollution as well.
Something everyone, especially us depends on.
If the groundwater gets polluted, our drinking water gets polluted. Even you must understand that drinking water is pretty darn important.
Also the soil. If that gets polluted?
Well goodbye forests, goodbye greens.
And you know what that means? Goodby fresh air.
Last year I found a dumping site from some tannery factory. Barrels of waste.
Had that shit leaked into the lakes the fishing industry would have been devastated.
People would have gone without a job, without food..
Think about that for a while.

The last time a lake got polluted here was in the 60's when the mining industry dropped lead and mercury into the water.
Guess what? That lake is still closed off and toxic to humans and wildlife.
And will be so for about 10 000 years.
Guess that's not long enough for you though.

My office is a little different. But also the same situation. 15-20 minutes of work on the hour.
Mostly just sit up here waiting instructions.
Between 35-40 $ per hour depending on what contractor.

Seems like an awesome job. Getting paid to do things you love is the way to go.

whats the application process like? are you awaiting an answer? were you already denied/accepted? what is the allowance and what does it cover?
>>
>>735055466
The process is pretty easy, I can only speak for texas though

Basically I just went into their office one morning and filled out paperwork.
simple stuff that you should mostly know off the top of your head.
depending on how much money you make you might qualify for emergency assistant, which basically means instead of waiting a few weeks to approve you,
they give you a card on the spot, which is what I got.

It covers pretty much anything edible from approved grocery stores. there's a list somewhere. just google EBT accepting stores

There are a few blacklisted items you can't get, like tobacco and alcohol, along with any sort of served food,
but I hear that there are some restaurants that sometimes takes EBT for some menu items. would be a waste though imo

It gives out $190 per month to live on, which is doable if you know how to eat on a budget

>>735055370
Minimum of a 2 year degree (typically takes 3 years total as there is one year of pre-reqs to take). Unfortunately, the 2 year associates trained RN is being phased out by administrators that don't understand the difference in training.

Starting salary is all on what state you are in and if you practice in acute care / rehab / SNF , etc. West coast typically starts at the 30+hr range for base pay. Scales up pretty fast depending on union.

Work is not bad. Some people get into it because "omg i care about ppl and i want to take care of them". I got into it because of job security, potential for transfer to different specialties, and for the money.
>>
>>735055778
also how did you cook those beans? in a pot? add spices? are they good? cheap food gets me super hard more pics please too
>>
>>735055370

Work not toooo hard to find. So long as you're proactive, willing to travel, work what ever unit you can get your foot in.

It's pretty easy to transfer to a different speciality so long as you don't start in a super niche like psych or just work in a doctors office.
>>
I'm a "Repossession Agent" aka repo man.

>>
>>735056423

I typically cook a lot of different stuff but I'm a single dude so it's pretty easy for me to have the headroom for that sort of thing, potato soup, chilli, pasta olio e aglio, etc.,

>>735056558

I usually take pics whenever I make this stuff so I can post pics if you want, just gotta grab them off my phone. I cooked them in both a slow cooker and a pot, lots of spices, along with a pork roast that I marinated in pickle juice and garlic then crusted before cooking in the pot for about 6 hours. it can be done faster if you soak the beans beforehand but I like the flavor of slowcooked better
>>
>>735056696

>>
>>735056696
are spices expensive? do you run through them cooking bland stuff like beans?
>>
>>735056855

Got them from my roomates, havn't seen my parents in a few years, they kicked me out and we're on bad terms atm
>>735056893
Spices are expensive if you only buy what you need for the thing at the time; just buy the useful stuff in bulk (onion powder, cumin, salt, pepper, etc.,) and if feel like you need something else for a particular meal just buy a big bottle so you don't have to worry about getting more later

Potato soup with shredded chicken:

Ingredients:
- 2 chicken breasts
- about 6 potatoes
- Milk + Sour cream
- Chicken stock
- about 1 onion

Prep:
prep the chicken however you like it, I slow cooked it because I like slowcooking shit, till it just falls apart, then begin cooking the
onion in your cooking pot, till it starts to caramelize, then de-glaze with about a quarter of the pot with chicken stock, scrape the good crusted onion shit off the bottom of the pot while you stir in your milk until it's about up to about half the pot. prep your potatoes by cleaning, chopping up into about 1inch cubes (need to be kinda big so they don't cook too fast, they might turn into mush otherwise) and put it in some water to release the starch for a min of 5 minutes. Put all that shit in the pot with the stock milk mixture and cook until the potatoes are tender, take it off the heat and add the sour cream (you can also you whipping cream) and mix until it's diluded
Season however you like (basically lots of salt and pepper, the potatoes eat the salt up and the the pepper compliments with creaminess of the broth) and maybe some cumin and cayenne if you like some bite with it

let cool for like at least 20 mins then serve. add cheese and chives to the bowl after serving
>>
>>735057477
total cost of that meal is about $20 but it made a pot big enough to feed me and my roomates for a good few days (chicken and potatoes are cheap af)

Simple meat spaghetti

Ingedients:
- Tomato paste
- Some pasta sauce my roomate had, it was generic so not sure.
- Angel hair pasta
- a lot of hamburger
- garlic
- onion

prep:
Super simple shit, just brown the hamburger meat with some chopped garlic and onion, drain well, add the pasta sauce, season to taste, cook the noodles about halfway, add the pasta to the sauce and finish cooking the pasta in the sauce so it soaks up all that good shit. Throw some lime juice on it if you wanna bring out some acidity from the garlic ( would recommend )

Chilli with chuck steak

Just followed this recipe and technique, but I had to improvise for the chilli paste. If you don't have a food processor, you can soak the finely chopped chillies in a water bath for 30-45 minutes, then throw it in a blender, I believe there is a way to do it without a blender but you might need to improvise in that case

Chips that I ruined by overseasoning them™

Just wash some russet potatoes, chop them, then soak them to get the starch out, Fry at medium heat in vegetable oil until they're blanched or just soft enough to feel almost done,
then remove them and turn the heat up to high, put the blanched potatoes back in the oil until crispy and brown on the outside and serve hot. season with salt and pepper to taste.

don't overseason them for gods sake. these are so good and I ruined them
>>

Yeah frying potatoes can be a pain in the ass, just stick with baking if you're not comfortable with it.

Also the spaghetti is stupid simple to make too, so that's a plus. it was also pretty good. It's just kinda hard to make a lot of it, it doesn't keep well.
