>not exotic Calacatta marble or something

If you refuse to take money from them, which is good, why did you think it a good decision to jump in to 12k debt? You're obviously willing to actually take money off of them, because you just acknowledged that they would pay off your debt if need be. Sounds to me like you're halfway between being a man and being a boy, wanting to be independent but scared shitless of not having mummy and daddy to catch you.

Seriously. I see an outdated range, under cooked potatoes on foil (cause you have to clean it), cheap granite on an island crowding a tiny living room, a cheap watch, cheap whine (with the label turned away from the camera), and old windows that you can't afford to fix. Also the tiny book self with very little books. The reason I asked about the city is because that view would impress here in Miami, but I don't think you live in a high cost city. I bet you have roommates.

33 years old
Own a tech company
Own 2 airplanes (2000 A36 and a 2006 Matrix)
3 houses (all 100 year old historic fuckers that are a pain in the ass to restore)
Probably only worth 2.5million in anything I could get rid of quickly or cash on hand... more if you value the business and attribute it... maybe 15million?

Fortunately never had a valuation because the company has no debt or outside investment.

I desire simplicity and pattern more than spending. I am sure some would say I'm rich, and I am by the global standard.

Someone always has more.

I design and build products that big name electronics companies license from me in OEM or ODM relationships.

Niche things you probably use a couple times a week but don't realize... things that the big companies will never be able to sell enough of to make in-house but that they need to support their main products and fill out thier product lines.

Some of them have recurring monthly data that I get paid directly.

I fund my on in-house R&D with the recurrent revenue.

Visit the napa valley and I'll let you stay in it free. Has a nice grand piano if you're musical, courtesy my wife. Sure to attract local golddiggers too if you wanna chase some tail.

In all seriousness, I'll probably end up losing it soon. She's cheating on me and she knows I know. She's done fuckall nothing to get me where I am and she'll end up with half of it. I really don't want to permanently move to montana the winters there are tragic.

>>
>>734922554
Work harder than everyone else.

No/Yes but less and less other than a few glasses of wine a week

I am only motivated by the thought of NOT being successful. I always feel like someone's chasing me with failure and I have to go out of my way to see even large successes as successes at all... I live my life thinking of that saying "you're only as good as your next album"

It's like anti-motivation.

Don't do partnerships
Endeavor to have the other guy take the risk but know you will if push comes to shove... but be ready to sweat.

Realize that showing up tirelessly is the biggest factor.
>>
>>734922369
I guess "real fuck you money" is relative. To me, someone who can spend $100k on a fucking handbag has real fuck you money. That's like, more than a third of what I have altogether and I'm 33. And some of those women have multiple $100k handbags, and are constantly showing off with their collections and new purchases. Mostly Asians from HK and Singapore, but quite a few Euros too.

On the other hand, on my diamond forum there's this old Chinese guy with a million dollar watch collection and custom cut 2ct diamond pinky ring. He drives an old Ford pickup truck and swears he lives in the ghetto. Says the watches are for him, not for showing off.

Don't concentrate on what you have to do in order to be successful, concentrate on what you have to do to avoid being a failure. That's how I live my life, if I try to chase success I just fall over so I run from failure instead.

Content is everything. Most of the business world is full of people who are bad at their job and that aren't capable of creating tangible content in whatever fields they are in.

If you have content and you are confident in that content, you will be able to get into the deals that are happening in that market.

Own a very mediocre car worth about $9k, a 2br/2ba condo worth around $240k with about $40k left to pay on it, no other debt to speak of and about $10k in the bank. I make around $52k/yr and was able to buy the condo because it was a foreclosure housing market bottomed out (2011) and I only had to pay 1/3rd of the current value.

I keep thinking about what I should do to increase my net worth, if I should try and buy more property or try and cash out on the condo and move to some place I actually want to live. Current job is pretty good but doesn't pay nearly enough for the work I'm doing.

Well done to you fuckers then. I know a lot of people who went to uni for similar shit and now work shitty unrelated jobs while constantly banging on about how they're going to be some success story one day.

More and more people see uni as a childhood extender, where they're not quite ready to leave school and take on their burdens so opt to stay in the reigns of a superior for as long as they can. These are the people that need to stop going to uni.

I actually run my own business and I can assure you it is about 90% luck based. Peopl with lots of money assume they're "smart" or "skilled" but really there's about a billion Indians 10x more skilled and smart than them working for 30 cents an hour.

At least I don't convince myself I'm smart because I have money. I acknowledge it is almost 100% luck and circumstance.

Don't lose hope brother... There was a guy in San Fran who was getting divorced he was a tech millionaire, he managed to only pay his cheating bitch wife less than 100K and that was it.

He basically started acting very depresses. Quit his job, then went to counseling where the counselor suggested the wife not make any stress for him. She ended up signing a divorce without going to court and he got to keep his fortune. I wish I could find the link on youtube...

Feel bad your wife is cheating. Who is the guy?

So the business runs itself?

The books and budgeting does itself?

The clients are talked to based on luck?

I doubt you run your own business. Running a business isn't about luck. Thats what poor people think. Running a business is about working your ass off and providing value to customers/clients.

And most indians aren't that creative or skilled. I went to school with those curry smelling retards and they are just good at parroting back information in general.

Yeah like around 80% or more of people who go to Uni.

>>734928998
Yeah, basically. I pay other people to do that for me and I live at home all day doing nothing while the money rolls in. Even when I was starting out, people who live paycheck to paycheck working harder than I do do a lot more book keeping than I ever have. The thought that running a business takes some kind of skill is delusional. All it takes is money and luck, nothing more.

I started this business in college but it really is 100% luck based. People who act high and mighty because they started a working company are the hugest retard asshats of all time.

>I doubt you run your own business. Running a business isn't about luck. Thats what poor people think. Running a business is about working your ass off and providing value to customers/clients.

Okay sorry to say but you seem like you have no real world experience at all. I'm gonna tell you how the real world works because I lived it myself. I started my own company from fucking nothing with 50k in student loans while I was in college. Nobody would give me a loan or help me at all but now I make 100k a year doing jack shit.

Running a business is LUCK based, and based on how much MONEY you have. No other factors exist. That's reality. Maybe when you grow up and experience it yourself, you will learn. There is almost no skill involved at all.

I've met some Indian engineers who are way better people than I am, but make 1/4th the money working 10 hour days.

Work and value does not equal money. Only money going in equals money going out. That's how the real world works. Take it from me, someone who actually fucking did it and is currently living the dream retired at 28.

I am the right hand man to the owner of a large construction company. I spend 12 to 14 hours each day work next to my boss on all aspects of the business. LUCK has NOTHING to do with it.. exception the occasional instance.. But mostly it is a constant grind... If you truly think that FUCKING LUCK is the main factor in running a successful business you are lying out of your inexperienced and unemployed faggot ass because you have NO fucking idea what you are talking about.

My boss built his business from the ground up.. He didnt even talk on debt. All self financed. Now he is making millions each year... Saying luck was the main factor is a fucking insult... That is something your broke family members taught you to keep you down and keep you being a loser. So stay being a fucking idiot.
>>
>>734929530
No one believes you... Show tits or gtfo
>>
>>734929658
Yes luck was the factor for me mainly. I now make 100k a year doing nothing.

I also came out of extreme poverty in the ghetto so I wasn't born rich like 90% of business owners I meet on a daily basis. It was almost 100% luck. Right place at the right time.

Your boss had it easier than me. I started with 50k in debt and I'm now rich.

It was LUCK, and MONEY, nothing more. If you think that's an insult you are a fucking retard. I hate these business owners who talk shit like they're intelligent or something. It's the most basic fucking thing imaginable.

All you do is:
1) Sell your product/service
2) Buy advertising

Rinse and repeat. It's that fucking simple. A braindead chimp could do it. But if you don't already come from money it takes much, much longer. People who are born with more money are more likely to start a business. Does that mean they have more "skill" than those born poor?

Business owners who call it skill are arrogant little shits. I will always remain humble and thank my luck for this business working out. That's all it ever was.

My boss nets around 2.5 million each year. He started his business from the back of his truck and with a bucket of hand tools.

Luck doesn't make you work hard each day.

You are confusing LUCK with hard work.

The construction industry is ruthless. You haven't said what industry you are in. And I think you are pretending that this is your life when in fact you don't have said business. No business owner will say Luck is the main factor???

I think you are pretending to have a business to appease your ego when in fact you don't.
>>
>>734929908
What skills do you think you need to run a business that isn't already required at any random 9-5 job.

You need to know how to interact with people.
You need to do a little tiny minor book keeping, like you already do with bills.
And you need to plan for the future, again like you already do with your limited money.

There is literally nothing that makes a business owner any superior to a person who works a job. Its 100% luck. People with normal jobs work a lot harder than I do trust me.

>>734930038
Landscaping company. I started with a weed whacker and a bicycle, not even a car. No mower either. Just biked to houses and weed whacked. That simple.

Is that some kind of insane otherwordly skill? I don't get retards who call themselves superior because they started a simple business.

Other people now work the business for me. It is EXTREMELY difficult starting up, but not because it requires any degree of skill. No, it's difficult because you don't have a crap ton of money to pour back into advertising. After you hit enough money to consistently pay for ads, it becomes a money printer. Any braindead idiot can do it.

My advice to you, if you want a business, your #1 priority should be making enough money to advertise, and getting 5 star reviews. Keep e-mailing your customers to write you reviews and the dough will just roll in.

I seriously laugh at people who think it takes skill to basically print money. It takes money to make money, not skill. Luck is also important but if you put yourself out there more often, you're more likely to meet clients. I started door to door offering low prices, and it really only began to take shape when my customers came back.

Think of it like feeding a cycle. You are not "skilled" for simply putting money in a money printer to make more money. It's so fucking retarded how people think seriously.
>>
>>734930385
>No business owner will say Luck is the main factor???
true, but most won't list hard work either.

intelligence is the secret ingredient.

Cmon... it's hard NOT to insult indians. You are very smelly and look disgusting. You are also extremely sexually perverted and just gross.

Just thinking about your brown skin makes me want to vomit.

I find your people repulsive. And that's ok because I love my people more than yours.

There were many indians in my university and your people smelled VERY BAD... you have different genes so it is to be expected but there is something about dark skinned people that I find repulsive in the way you all smell.
>>
>>734930385
>Luck doesn't make you work hard each day.

This is the major confusion most people have about owning a business. Yes, it's hard work, but no harder than working for someone else. It's exactly the same amount of work. People who work difficult jobs are a lot more skilled than I am. I can't tile a fucking roof in 100 degree weather in the middle of summer. But those people can, and they make 1/20th what I do. That's life. Not fair. You don't get back what you put in, unless what you put in is money. It's a simple cycle. Feed money, make money. Not rocket science and requires no skill at all.

I said I'm in landscaping. I don't work anymore. I used to work in construction so it was easy to transition to landscaping. Landscaping isn't easy but it's a lot easier than masonry.

Trust me, owning a business is not difficult. I highly recommend you do it. Print a few business cards, go door to door, and offer to mow grass for cheap. That's how I did it.

Another word of advice, family is HUGE. That's another reason I think it's mainly luck. People born in shitty families dirt poor have no chance at starting a business, but my family helped me out later on with the mowing jobs which made it much easier.

It's about where you're born, not how great of a person you are. There's plenty of outstanding awesome geniuses working pesticide-ridden fields in China. You think you're smarter than they are? Because you landed in a lucky spot to start a business? Get your head out your fucking ass, asshat.
>>
>>734930557

What about insurance?

This is genius really. Yet very simple when you explain it.

How many employees do you have?

... I suppose you could also advertise and not even have your own company you could just cut a deal with an already established landscaping company to do the work and you bring the clients?

They are independent contractors and we pay minimum $15 an hour. I had my fair share of shitty business owners using me and I'm not gonna repeat the cycle. Mostly illegal dudes but they are paid enough to feed their families properly. Fuck greedy shitstains that pay $8 an hour.

Insurance is very cheap. It was only a couple hundred bucks a year when I started out.

3 employees right now but i cover occasional days when one calls out. I make around 100k with my business and I am looking into opening a vending mchine company.

It's a very simple cycle. Feed money in, get money out. There's no "skill". The idea that there's skill involved makes me fucking lol.

Focus on money and advertising. Advertising is HUGE. 5 star reviews are literally gold nuggets. More valuable than gold. I would gladly trade the pay for any job for a single review. Don't underestimate their importance, and don't underestimate advertising. I highly recommend Yelp ads, google was less effective for us.

>... I suppose you could also advertise and not even have your own company you could just cut a deal with an already established landscaping company to do the work and you bring the clients?

I looked into doing this once but honestly I'm the kind of guy who feels rich at 40k a year so I don't want to make more money with more work. I'd rather make less money with less work, which is why I'm planning on passive income like vending machines.

The rest of the money goes back to the business and my family. I spend very very little. My car is 15 years old and I'm not flashy.

No problem man. Another piece of advice I could give is branch out in your market but don't over extend yourself. When i started out I did dog walking, computer repair, freelance writing, tutoring for Spanish immigrants, and landscaping. I noticed landscaping was the one thing that brought in the most money for the least work, and just kept doing it. Find your niche for your area. Do NOT be discouraged by competition. Even if there are 10 companies out there offering the same service, you can still offer yours for the same price. DO not always undercut, as it might be seen as you offering a crappy discount service. That scares away the wealthy clients, your most important clients. Only undercharge when you know it will get you the job. Otherwise, act like a pro and charge pro prices, even if you don't know what the fuck you're doing.

I remember one day I was mowing this guy's lawn and pathway with a weed whacker and I had to look up a youtube video right then and there to see how to mow the trim properly. That always makes me laugh when I think about it. I had no fucking idea what I was doing. But if you care enough to cover your ass and learn what you're doing, you will make money and people will remember you.

Another phenomenon I noticed is the effect of advertising. When I was doing this on my own I got maybe 2 clients a month after constant door to door walking. After Yelp ads, I got around 8-10 per month. It was fast and effective. Now I see why Coca Cola and Geico pay millions of dollars for a single superbowl ad. Advertising works. Remember that. And present your website and advertising pages as professionally as you can. Respond to customer reviews. Send mailed postcards wishing people happy birthday with discounts. Write down client's kids' birthdays too. People remember that.
