How do you take your coffee, /b/? I'm trying to slowly reduce the sugar and milk I use in mine to eventually get to black and I got curious.
>>
Always used cream but I started drinking it black as part of a diet. Interestingly, I found that once you can actually taste coffee in all it's nuanced flavor, it's delicious. I'll never go back.

Plus, I really feel like a grown up now. (I'm 38).
>>
>>734746714
Yeah that's what a lot of articles have been mentioning. They say you can really begin to taste the different roasts. The dietary aspect of it is an obvious bonus as well.
>>
>>734746507
black
>>
The trick to transitioning into black coffee is buying good coffee. If you aren't used to drinking it black, shitty coffee will taste bitter and almost sour. Be willing to drop 15 bucks or more on a bag of good beans and you will be happy.
>>
>>734746507
I'm with you on it, I have seriously cut back sugary beverage intake, and would like to start reducing my sugar in coffee as well.
>>
Stick to medium roasts. Dark roasts tend to lose the nuanced flavours and while they are fine, you won't enjoy them as much if you are used to sugar and cream

haha coffee

I dont fucking drink beans, only tea
>>
>>734746507
Cream or milk, no sugar. Never understood why people put sugar in coffee or tea.
>>
>>734746507
buy whole beans and grind them yourself. store bought coffee tends to be cut with sticks and dirt
>>
>>734747119

>>
>>734746507

I drink my coffee black. Occasionally I put a tablespoon of whole milk in.
>>
>>734747119
You are drinking water mixed with a plant. So are we.
>>
I don't drink coffee.

Bow before your god
>>
>>734746507
Stir and add milk at the same time to moderate
>>
If you're stuck with K-cups I reommend Green Mountain Dark Magic. It's an outstanding coffee for being pre-packaged and a k-cup.

My personal favorite, and what allowed me to transition to drinking black coffee, is this blend: http://www.kaldi.com/organic-sea-breeze

SOOOO worth the money, especially so if you have a french press, or something other than a cheap drip machine.

If you look up 'tea' in the first cookery book that comes to hand you will probably find that it is unmentioned; or at most you will find a few lines of sketchy instructions which give no ruling on several of the most important points.
This is curious, not only because tea is one of the main stays of civilization in this country, as well as in Eire, Australia and New Zealand, but because the best manner of making it is the subject of violent disputes.

When I look through my own recipe for the perfect cup of tea, I find no fewer than eleven outstanding points. On perhaps two of them there would be pretty general agreement, but at least four others are acutely controversial. Here are my own eleven rules, every one of which I regard as golden:

First of all, one should use Indian or Ceylonese tea. China tea has virtues which are not to be despised nowadays — it is economical, and one can drink it without milk — but there is not much stimulation in it. One does not feel wiser, braver or more optimistic after drinking it. Anyone who has used that comforting phrase 'a nice cup of tea' invariably means Indian tea.
Secondly, tea should be made in small quantities — that is, in a teapot. Tea out of an

They're not actually beans. They're seeds. I know, it blew my mind too.

Why the fuck does everyone call them beans?
>>
drink out of a good breakfast cup — that is, the cylindrical type of cup, not the flat, shallow type. The breakfast cup holds more, and with the other kind one's tea is always half cold before one has well started on it.
Ninthly, one should pour the cream off the milk before using it for tea. Milk that is too creamy always gives tea a sickly taste.
Tenthly, one should pour tea into the cup first. This is one of the most controversial points of all; indeed in every family in Britain there are probably two schools of thought on the subject. The milk-first school can bring forward some fairly strong arguments, but I maintain that my own argument is unanswerable. This is that, by putting the tea in first and stirring as one pours, one can exactly regulate the amount of milk whereas one is liable to put in too much milk if one does it the other way round.
Lastly, tea — unless one is drinking it in the Russian style — should be drunk without sugar. I know very well that I am in a minority here. But still, how can you call yourself a true tealover if you destroy the flavour of your tea by putting sugar in it? It would be equally reasonable to put in pepper or salt. Tea is meant to be bitter, just as beer is meant to be bitter. If you sweeten it, you are no longer tasting the tea, you are merely tasting the sugar; you could make a very similar drink by dissolving sugar in plain hot water.

Some people would answer that they don't like tea in itself, that they only drink it in order to be warmed and stimulated, and they need sugar to take the taste away. To those misguided people I would say: Try drinking tea without sugar for, say, a fortnight and it is very unlikely that you will ever want to ruin your tea by sweetening it again.
>>
>>734746507
I don't. Anything that's not water or extractable by squeezing something from a fruit is poison.
>>
>>734747728
This... But it also has to really good quality coffee.
>>

These are not the only controversial points to arise in connexion with tea drinking, but they are sufficient to show how subtilized the whole business has become. There is also the mysterious social etiquette surrounding the teapot (why is it considered vulgar to drink out of your saucer, for instance?) and much might be written about the subsidiary uses of tealeaves, such as telling fortunes, predicting the arrival of visitors, feeding rabbits, healing burns and sweeping the carpet. It is worth paying attention to such details as warming the pot and using water that is really boiling, so as to make quite sure of wringing out of one's ration the twenty good, strong cups of that two ounces, properly handled, ought to represent.

On the side of Mount Talang, an active stratovolcano in Sumatra, the native and endangered Nepenthes talagensis grows. It is a tropical pitcher plant. Approximately nine years after any given eruption of Mount Talang, the water that collects in the pitchers is at its optimum condition. Mount Talang last erupted in 2007, so the time is fast approaching for my journey.
Once there, the collection process will be tedious, and great care must be taken not to harm the endangered plants. After each collection, the plant's pitcher water is replaced with mineral water from a nearby source, allowing it to survive. Once enough pitcher water is collected and hermetically sealed, the next leg of the quest begins.

A seven-day boat ride from South Africa will lead me to Tristan da Cunha, literally the most remote island in the world. (Not to be confused with its namesake archipelago of which it is also a part.) Once there, armed with the proper credentials (obtained during my time helping an Eritrean refugee find his father in 1996), I will request a meeting with "The Council", consisting of eight aged persons known only as Glass, Green, Hagan, Lavarello, Patterson, Repetto, Rogers, and Swain. If I am deemed worthy, The Council will share the location of "Primus fabam Sanctae Helenae", or "the Prime Beans of Saint Helena". These are grown on a barge somewhere off the coast of the island of Saint Helena. Every year, the barge is restocked with soil from the island, and a secret cultivation process is used to grow the coffee bean tree. The barge's location changes every month.
>>
I take my coffee away with a trail of sadness as I'm super allergic and no longer have the tolerance I spent over half a year building up.
>>
>>734746507
Depends where I'm having it, at a restaurant a bit of sugar and cream.
At home a bit of artificial sugar (supposed to be healtiher or some shit) and some milk
>>
>>734748233

The window of opportunity is finite, so I will have to journey as quickly as possible to the barge. Having access to various ancient artifacts of significant value is one's best chance at being able to trade for a few of these precious beans. The crew of the barge value little else. Modern art and technology are rarely sufficient, and no amount of money will ever sway them.

Beans and water in hand, my final trip will be to a politically disputed territory in South America. It has a total area of only a few kilometers. The surrounding countries once fought for the right to call this territory their own, but for complex reasons too nuanced to enumerate here, they are currently at a stalemate. This territory does not show up on any official map. I only know of its existence via a chance encounter with a Chilean dissident I met while studying secret Buddhist teachings in Tibet.
The territory itself is home to a tribal family who has lived in the South American rainforests for millennia. Every few generations, this family begets a Brew Matriarch, a woman of incomparable skill and knowledge, in whose hands even the basest and most purile coffee can be made palatable.

The current Matriarch is considered a prodigy, having mastered her grandmother's teachings at the tender age of eleven. She is now seventy-eight and considered to be at her best. In her hands, my ingredients will be prepared in the most ideal capacity possible.

Once her esoteric art has been practiced, from the roasting and grinding of the beans, to the brewing with the water, the perfect cup of coffee will be rendered.

Drink it? I think not. The coffee will then be sprayed from an atomizer, and I shall inhale its vapor, allowing its sublime richness to be consumed the proper way.

But if you people want to go to 7-Eleven or Wawa or Dunkin or whatever, that's none of my business.

It's in the fridge for god's sake lad.
Does fruit go bad in the fridge?
Also, leaving grinds+cold water in the fridge overnight is literally how you make cold brew

Lol if you don't think coffee goes stale you're an autist.

Cold brew is a bunch of shittard hipsters drinking stale coffee

As a customer, that isn't how I see it.
If coffee is more than 30 minutes old its fucking stale, I couldn't care less if you keep it stored in the fridge. It's stale.

Do you guys really serve old coffee when people order an iced coffee?

alright customer, you are always right (god i hate americans). but i'm telling you this is how they make iced coffee,
fyi, the kyoto yama slow-drip takes 6 hours to brew, it is highly prized coffee but it must be "stale" because that's how your refined ass sees it.
