The red flag in our society goes up because this construct weeds out people who's behaviour lies outside it as deviants who didn't develop normally and likely have other mental issues, including poor self control. On a slightly different note this is why mentally ill/handicapped people are often pedos. I think people who are attracted to pre-pubescent kids lie in another catagory and have developed a specific (and rightfully frowned upon) fetish.

The idea that pedos are "born that way" is based on an oversimplified, archiac, and basically religious logic that demonizes our sexuality because we are uncomfortable with closely examining the ugliness of human nature. If being attracted to a sexually mature 14 year old makes you a pedophile, then we are all pedophiles. I'm not arguing that it's okay for a 40 year old teacher to fuck a 13 year old student. There are plenty of logical reasons why you shouldn't do that, but pretending that feeling the attraction makes you a monster just serves to make us all fearful of our own nature.
