Midnight here on the west coast. Just jack and coke. Popped a xanax too.

Generally, I'm not in favor of ruining good bourbon with artificial flavorings. But Jack Daniel's...yeah, not especially good.

If you've got bourbon do yourself a favor and make an old fashioned. (My personal drink of choice, if I had to pick one drink to drink myself to death with.)

But I am drinking Jack tonight as well, so I feel you buddy. I'm a writer, and Jack has a way of coercing the words out of me.

Japanese stuff. About half the strength of vodka, but with an nice, earthy complexity to it. My favourite stuff to drink straight of mixed with hot water.

Hard to find outside Japan, though.

I live near a speak easy which makes a fantastic one. I drink it every night after work before I go home. Here's the recipe:
>Bourbon
>Angostura Bitters (But any bitter will do)
>Some people throw in a sugar cube, but I don't
>Put an orange peel in there, with a red cherry
>Ice

It's that easy. Sometimes, if you do have whisky, you can substitute the bourbon for it, but honestly, I prefer the bourbon.
>>

Dude, I had no idea until I was already wasted at a bar, ordered a G&T, went upstairs to the dance floor (blacklights.jpg) and my mind was blown

>>734709314
Honestly, I have tried it, and I don't like tonic water. Gin is fine, but it's the tonic that gets me. Can't do it, don't know what it is.

I'm drinking SKYY vodka in PA. at $30.00 bot.. Buy 3 a week.
>>
>>734709264

Different grains, but barley, potato, and buckwheat are the most common.

I really can't describe the flavour beyond being "earthy". The Korean soju is a cognate word, but not terribly similar, tasting more like a weak, slightly sweet version.

I highly recommend trying it if you can find it. If you appreciate good whisky, you'll probably be a fan a shouchuu as well. Try barley to start.

Quinine... I like the flavour, personally, but it did start off as a medicine. The G'n'T itself was born because the soldiers of the Raj found the quinine to be too unpleasant to drink, and so it was mixed with the ubiquitous spirit of the time: gin.

This Suntori stuff is actually not half bad, surprisingly smooth and light. Pretty cheap too, $30 a handle.
>>
>>734709756
I know it's not a normal old fashioned. But it's a quick and easy old fashioned that people can make using everyday household ingredients. It's 4AM on the east coast. This nigga ain't gonna run to the liquor store to get the good shit.
>>734709711
You learn something new everyday. That's an actual fun fact. I like that.
>>
>>734709612
NO, it's not
>>
>>734709846

No sweetener since you mention no sugar along with the orange and cherry. The orange is common but not traditional, thanks to blue moon, and the cherry is just for faggots.
>>
>>734709314
Every gin and tonic I've had in the states had a lime in it. In the UK they put a lemon in it. What is correct?
>>
>>734709849
Some people add water to their old fashioned, but personally I don't like it. I like to taste the liquor. If you're going to have it watered down, a nice, large ice cube is the way to go, as it melts slowly and you can squish the cherry with it for added flavor if you're willing to dirty up your finger. It does taste good dry as well.
>>
>>734709977
I mean... here in the U.S, I;ve only had it with lime. You guys just might like it different, and that's okay
>>
>>734709711

Speaking of bourbon, I'm picking this up next week.

I mostly drink Scotch and I wanna give bourbon a try. I was told this is cheap but decent starting bourbon.

A few others on my list are Elijah Craig, Knob Creek and WT101 but none of those are available where I am so I'm going with Maker's.
>>
>>734710047

Con't compare vermouth to a simple sweetener that simply mellows the complex notes of a quality bourbon you colossal faggot.
>>
>>734709878

Japs make very, very good whisky.

Now, Japanese wine? Stay the fuck away from the shit. They've been trying to figure out wine for decades, but even the best they can do is still worse than the cheapest, Californian goon.

They are also absolutely crazy for Beaujolais Nouveau, for some reason.
>>
>>734709741
No longer 12 years old. sad.
>>
>>734710045
I mean, you might be right, but I can't help that they serve it with Lime. I could tell them to hold the lime, but I literally do not care. I don't know why you care so much
>>
>>734710040

Extremely.
>>
>>734710200

Everything is ruined by faggots who don't know anything but want to feel like the special snowflakes they think they are because they saw shit on a tv show and their local fag bar doesn't know what they're doing.
>>
>>734710267
I think you're just trying to prove how much you know about how drinks are supposed to be made when, in fact, nobody cares and you are being the hipster
>>
>>734709711
Quinine. Malaria medication?
>>
>>734710267
TL;DR, hipsters do what you are doing, and you apparently dislike hipsters.
>>
>>734710378

See your response is the problem. I called someone out when they misinformed people about what a certain drink is. Then fagots like you cry about it and talk shit as if I'm the bad guy for simply trying to correct someone when they were talking about something they know little to nothing about because the faggots at the local corner bar serve it that way and you're too much of a bitch to order a drink the way you want it so you just accept that as your normal like a little bitch and you stay misinformed and that level of ignorance spreads like wildfire.
>>
>>734710155
I was just teasing because you have such an issue with fruits.

personally, I like fruits in my drinks. Without the fruits, people are stuck with either dry, or sugar cubes, which over hype the flavor or don't add enough to it. A fruit is a decent middle ground as it never has an overwhelming amount of sugar.

Fun fact:
>Granulated sugar actually comes from beets. Vegetables have the highest glucose levels, and that's why children don't like them. They have more taste buds than we do and vegetables are too 'sweet' for them.

>You're probably older than me, and thus have less taste buds. This is why a non fruity old fashioned appeals to you more than it does to me, though no taste is better than the other. As I get older, I am sure I too will ditch the fruits in my drinks and drink them dry just like you do. It's a perfectly acceptable form of tasting, but the fact remains that a good old fashion, dry or fruity, is one of the best drinks ever invented by mankind.
>>
>>734710380

And preventative, yup. One of the first useful antimalarials, I think.
>>
>>734710511
You did not simply correct anybody. You berated somebody for making a drink differently than you prefer. Kill yourself
>>
Admiral Nelson's and cream soda, same as every night. It's the only unhealthy thing I consume.

>>
>>734710511
It wasn't misinformation. It was a general suggestion. The way you like your old fashioned, isn't better than somebody else's way of enjoying the drink. We all have different taste buds, and enjoy drinks differently and for different reasons. I've had an old fashioned the way you describe it, and I do enjoy it. I just prefer it the other way. I have a sweet tooth.
>>
>>734710804

I'm too sober to be communicating with people.
>>
>>734710670
Oh. My apologies. I was trying to give you credit for enjoying a drink that's quite good, in the way it's meant to be drank, not the way it was meant to be preferred. I didn't know you were just an edgy faggot who had to oppose everything like a neckbearded beta faggot. I thought you had some class about you. I deeply apologize, I won't make the mistake twice.

Agreed. I've been following it for the last couple hours and my bottle of jack is almost empty. That's the problem with drinking threads.

They never start early enough for enough people to care

They start late enough where the people invested in the conversation get sleepy
>>
>>734714138
It's made from grain. Wheat, probably. That's the cheapest and they have a stalk of it on the label. It's grain alcohol. Wheat, sugar, yeast. Then distilled to (probably) about 180, 190 proof. 85% to 90% pure alcohol. Then watered down, literally, to 40%. No aging. No coddling. Just industrially produced etoh. And that is all I ask. Just gimme the fucking alcohol and fuck off.
>>
It's 5AM on the east coast, and I refuse to believe people have stopped drinking. BUMP.
