I started writing software as a teenager. As I went through college and various jobs, I discovered generics and reflection. Those two concepts alone allow me to automate and make things a lot cleaner.
This, of course, lead into architecture and design. The proper design allows you to expand your code-base effortlessly with minimal changes required.

For instance, added a new table to your database? All you'd have to do with the proper design is structure a model class and you're done. Everything else is automated with generics. It's wonderful.
