Any advice for general maintenance? Its gotten pretty thick to where I have had to chip at it with my nail clippers and file it down a bit to get it down. Its bad to the point of being a dusty mess when trimming.

It's a gift as much as it's a curse.

Look at it this way - you'll never properly stub that toe again.
If you do your fleshy bits will be protected by the crumbly outer shell.
Just like a snail or a tortoise, if it can't get through that crumbly buscuit base, it can't hurt you.

Next, get a comfy chair, put on some soft music, and grab a good book cause your gonna need to let it soak in the solution for at least an hour...
