I'm currently in the process of trying to get an old 78' Honda CB400T to run, but i'm autistic. Can anyone help me?
>>
Electrics ok? If so, she'll run, as long as there's fuel ans the engine isn't seized!
>>
bumping because i'm sad and want to get this started so i can crash and die
>>
>>733492428

If its been sitting for a long time, you might have to dismantle the carbs as the fuel might have solidified around the floats.

actually carbs have been rebuilt, i want to hook them back up, but i'm not sure where to hook the fuel line, or even where secure the carbs to the bike.
>>
>>733492428
>put raw eggs in the fuel tank then run the engine for 10 mins this will seal any cracks in the engine or pipe works
Also don't add any oil until you work out if it's a 2 stroke, 4 stroke or 6 stroke don't use the wrong oil this will fuck your bike up
>>
>>733493244
not where as in where i hook them up, i mean as in where to secure it so it doesnt fall
>>
>>733492428
Did you try switching. It off and on again?

But seriously, there's probably fuel gumming up the engine. At best you could probably get it turn over with a little gas. At worst you will probably want to dismantle it and get it all clean. Last time a buddy of mine had this issue, it took a little muscle, some carb cleaner and running it all day to free up the seals, but it rides smooth now.
>>
>>733493534
>need to hook up fuel tank and reattach carbs.
>>
>>733493427
>2 stroke

Implying cb400s are made in 2 stroke.

if you don't know shit about motorcycles, trade it in on a Segway.
>>
>>733492428

in order to run you must first set your foot as far as you can ahead of you.

then you must move your body center mass of gravity towards it, pulling your other feet.

then the other feet should do the same.

repeat from step 1 until you're running.
>>
>>733492806
This.
>>733493244
The fuel inlet might be that brass pipe on the left side of the pic. Some bikes have individual ports for fuel some have a rail system in place. Use some feeler gauges to get your carbs bench synced and you'll need a vacuum gauge to get them properly synced.
>>
>>733493795
I wish I could, bike is worth way less that a Segway

>>733493629
there is only 1 fuel line from the tank, which doodlebopper should i attach it too? What is that bronze doodlebop on top then?
>>
>>733492806
no battery currently, it does have a kick start though, so it should be able to run without the battery from what i've read

>>733493928
I just want to make sure which lil'port i fill so i dont fuck anything up
>>
>>733494113
Upon further inspection I'm 99% sure it is the brass pipe on the left side. That silver pipe that's below the throttle shaft on the front side is the crossover pipe for the fuel. It keeps fuel going into the bowl for second carb.
>>
>>733494274
Isn't that the fuel bowl bleed thing
>>
>>733493948
Oh shit here we go...

Fuel line into carb bowl, air filter on the back of the carb, carb bolted with seal to cylinder housing.

You'll need to set up your carb with the mixture screws.

Actually, fuck it, just go to a mechanic. Get off /b/ and go buy the Haynes manual.
>>
>>733494369
Your bowl bleed is on the bottom of the bowls. Loosen the screw on the bottom to empty the bowls.
>>
>>733494415
Also this. Make sure your carb boots are not cracked and are the proper ones. Turn your mixture screws in all the way then back them out 2 turns to get them in the neighborhood of where they need to be. Do you have the oem airbox? If not you will have to get some pod filters and might need to reject the carbs to accommodate the extra air flow.
>>
>>733494654

carb boots are ok, just posted a picture of the airbox and it seems like it's missing most parts to it, heard pod filters are hell to adjust to the carbs, but pods look GREAT
>>
>>733494989
Ya I'd say for your case get some pods. They can be hell getting the right stage rejet kit for your size filters. But you can buy a box of different sized jets and experiment.

they do look like vacuum lines but it's a little illogical to have vacuum lines below the flotor / connected to the fuel bowl. Usually the vacuum line is placed on
the flange intake(the black rubber that connects the engine with the carbs) from the admission between the carb and the engine. At least this is the system I have on my GSX-R (pic related).

This is a little hard to tell. Basically when you do the "revving" move on the handle one of them gets shorter.
The cable that gets shorter should be on the bottom (so when you accelerate it twists the whole mechanism upwards)
The cable that gets longer when you accelerate should will get shorter when you decelerate ( simply lowering the mixture of gas and air in the engine chamber )

Regarding >>733506475 , I'm not sure also if that should be connected to a scrubber / purifier ( not sure what the translation from romanian to english is for "epurator"?) Pic somesort related.
To describe it better, it's a plastic container with a 'sponge' inside(for filtering dust/residue purposes) that lets the camshaft/top part of the engine breathe
>>
>>733506475

Motorcycles are very dangerous.Non-ABS motorcycles are even more dangerous. Statistically, non-ABS bikes riders are 37% more likely to get killed on a motorcycle than ABS bikes rider.

Moral is: if you ride a motorcycle than scrap your old non-ABS shit, and replace it with something with ABS. Some day it will save your life, health, and wallet.

Statistically, you can go fuck yourself with your piecharts. We're here to do the mechanic part, not to complain like a cuck that non-ABS bikes are not safe.

We try to learn what our non-ABS shits do, the signs of bad functioning, etc.
I presume that when your bike has a burned lightbulb you call your mechanic to come pick up your bike on a platform, do a full consumable switch and fuck your wife at the same time, cuck.

Is it? I'm sorry I didn't realize. No shit dude that's why you make yourself visible and maintain proper following distance so oncoming traffic can see you and slow down according to road conditions. And abs isn't going to help if you freeze up or get target fixated.
>>
>>733509030
ok boss, do you think it's alright to try and start now with the carbs hooked up and fuel lined up? just to try it out

>No shit dude that's why you make yourself visible and maintain proper following distance so oncoming traffic can see you and slow down according to road conditions.

And still get killed by the stupid bling cager who "didn't saw you". Cagers are extremely stupid and dangerous. You may be very visible on your motorcycle, keep a large distance - and they'll still try to kill you all the time. That's why ABS on the motorcycle is vitally important. And there's no way around it.
>>
>>733510155
You're hung up on abs too much anon. What about proper gear? And making sure you're bike is mechanically sound. Abs hasn't been around forever on bikes or cars and we managed to survive. Neither of my bikes have abs and I'm ok with that.
>>
>>733510155
honestly, this isn't going to be my MAIN vehicle, and i wouldnt have any reason to ride it in the rain, unless my car is broken down. I don't really care about ABS at all if i'm just going to ride this around my shitty town and fuck around on it.
>>
>>733510136
You can see if it will but probably not if you don't have your air box in place. Make sure it's choked and see if will at least sputter. That way you know you have fuel, air, compression and spark. As long as you have those four your good. But it might get too much air without the air box in place.

>>
>>733510512
I don't hung up on ABS or anything else too much. I'm just being realistic - that's all. Proper protective gear are also extremely important in motorcycling. So as the proper riding skills and technics. The difference between gear and ABS is that the gear helps to minimize the damage when crash happens. And ABS helps to prevent this crash from happening.

Neither of my bikes had ABS, and I also was OK with it. Until one day one blind cager on a rusty LCV send me to hospital's ICU with a multiple broken bones and a massive loss of blood. And my bike to the scrapyard. It took me a year and a lot of money to fully recover. And I still consider myself lucky because I could easily get killed in this crash.

This was mostly my own fault, but that's not the point. The point is: this would not have happened if my bike had an ABS. But it hadn't - so the crash happened. That is why I would never by myself a non-ABS bike again. I learned this lesson the hard way. I'm not the first, and definitely not the last who learned this lesson: everyone who rides a non-ABS bikes might be the next one. It happens all the time.
>>
I also have a '78 Honda. Check the compression, that's where mine had issues.
>>
>>733510548
In that case you need ABS and protective gear even more: most of the crashes happens in the short rides not far away from home.

>>733512488
then could you mind donating some money to me, so i can afford a bike with ABS? <3
>>
>>733512602
I'm even more broke than you are right now. At least you have a motorcycle (although it's an old piece of crap), while I only have some minor parts of mine bike left.

Just saying abs on my cars has fucked me over more times than it's helped me. I hate abs. Lean to drive and you won't need it. I would never buy a bike with abs

If you don't have this, then get one.

The electrical part pretty much sorts itself up after you assemble/mount all the mechanical parts. Wires have different lengths and extend to just a narrow segment of your bike(pic semi related, from when I took out the engine, radiator, dash, etc). Additionally, they have specific plastic parts that fit between them (don't know the english translation, let's associate with a headphone jack and the phone socket for that specific Jack).

You can check http://piesemotociclete.ro/ after it gets out of maintenance and order/preview any item's code / get a better idea on what these parts imply

What the fuck does an ABS bike have to do with this thread, cuck?

>>733512546
Keep in mind that in some countries, you have strict technical inspections and tampered electrics can make you a pedestrian for as long as you do not fix that.
>>
>>733512179
I'm sorry to hear that man. Im sure there are several factors that caused your crash and abs might or might not have saved you. I'd say find the reasons for the crash and learn not to make that mistake again.

>At worst you will probably want to dismantle it and get it all clean.

This is probably the best idea since you're not guessing about what may be not working.

Cars and motorcycles rides completely differently. ABS (especially the old ones) might be bad and unnecessary on the cars, but it's vitally important on the motorcycles.
>>
>>733513255
>>Vitally important
How about getting some driving skills?
>>
>>733513255
It is not important. Learning how to ride is important. I've been riding for ten years. I've taken a bike into a ditch to avoid an accident. Abs is shit they put on so even idiots can ride.
>>
>>733513162
>strict technical inspections
i live in Greece mate, doesnt work like that here.lights, blinkers, and horn is all you need
>>
>>733513242
I know my crash. Of course there are several factors. But I'm 99% sure an ABS would have saved me. Too bad I haven't had an ABS.

My dad just gave me his 02 V-Star, I am trying to get her running as well. Looks like the pilot jets are clogged.

of course, Mother Greece doesn't even wear a helmet :)
On a serious note, not every country is like Greece
>>
>>733513485
I wish it would have had abs and that it caused you to not slow down as much as you did. Then maybe it would have killed you. Have you thought about it that way?

ABS enlarging the braking distance is just a cuckold's myth. Because reality is completely opposite: ABS helps the rider to stay on his wheels to maintain control of the bike to keep braking and evading the crash.

While bikes without an ABS instantly locks the front wheel that causes them to roll over on the side (with the rider) and slide. If you really believe that sliding on the side of your bike is more effective way to brake than braking with your tires - than you're an idiot.
