Revolvers are no better or worse then a pistol. They usually carry less bullets but they get the benefit of not as likely to jam. If you have to shoot more then 6 times at a Target you're not really aiming which makes you more dangerous then the criminal. In the gun world revolver vs pistol is like Coke vs Pepsi.
Most police officers are issued Glock 9mm though. Not revolvers

You would have to live in a very rural place with an extremely relaxed sheriff or chief of police. Local sheriff's deputies are allowed to pick between a glock or a 1911. All local PD's carry glocks. The issue isn't really reload speed, as you can get be pretty fuckin fast with a speed reloader, it's that you only get 6 shots. My G22 carries like 15+1. Pretty much a no brainer.
