Did any of you Wintoddler faggots get hit by this shit? Did it encrypt your porn folders?
>>
>>732559394
I don't even know what that is.
>>
>>732559542
It's ransomware and as long as you're not >35 years of age you're practically immune. They bait people into downloading it through whatever retarded program they can get you to download. I've heard of some of these being installed through javascript but I don't know (doubt) if that was reliable hearsay.
>>
>>732559542
do you live under a rock, anon?
>>
>>732559659
shithead, you can get it WITH NO USER INTERACTION WHATSOEVER. NSA found an exploit in Windows that can infect anything on LAN.
>>
>>732559394
I had something like this once when downloading an album off of a rapidshit.

It blocked me from doing anything and it said that if I didn't pay 300 bucks I would be charged by the police for illegal downloading and/or CP.

System recovery got rid of the virus.
>>
>>732559659
having been Java-ransomed before, yeah it can be installed via Java, took a bit of work to get rid of but it was cured, and the page that it originated from got windows blacklisted so windows itself can't access it
>>
>>732559731
This is different. His comp isn't locked up, the worm encrypted all his files. He can always format and reinstall to get rid of the worm, but the encrypted files stay locked unless you pay (and probably even if you do pay, let's be honest)
>>
>>732559730
So they have to get onto your lan first. While not terribly hard, usually there's a system in the network that's less secure than the others (game console, some kids computer, etc.), they do still need an in. Firewalls and knowing what you're downloading is important. Not having your computer plugged in the LAN defeats that.
>Turn off wireless when you're not monitoring your connection
>unplug the cat cable or whatever wifi dongle shit you have
Now you have an isolated system.
Wait long enough for the virus to be named and defeated by the common security programs and you're fine.
Or you could just not use the internet.
Do you assholes leave your shit on 24/7?
>>
>>732560175
if you don't have a firewall or have a firewall with SMB ports open, you're fucked.

you only need one retard on your LAN to get it and you're fucked.
>>
>>732559890
do you remember what the website was or the topic or was it a baiting site where you play some flash game or something so they could disguise the download behind the game? TaxmasterFree? or some shit? It's fascinating. thanks for sharing.

microsoft issued a fix for this shit already, even though they knew about it over a month ago.
they even went as far as issuing a fix for unsupported older versions.

let your auto updates run, you faggots, and you won't have to worry about shit like this. you're not noobs.
>>

paranoia mode activated. i keep getting messages that windows is about to update to a new version of windows and to get ready.

think they did this on purpose so it'd scare people into upgrading?
>>
>>732559669
No. I'm just careful about what programs I download and install. And I only get torrent apps from reliable sites.
>>
I got hit with it at work (I'm the Infrastructure/Helpdesk manager).

Somehow the virus figured out who the CFO of the company was and aliased as that person. It sent an email to some select dumb fucks within the company with a zip attachment claiming it was info on bonuses and raises. Of course the morons opened it.

Luckily I have my shit well secured and logged, so as soon as I got an alert from the AV console that something had been hit I just immediately shut down every file server in the company. Everybody was pissed, but they would have been more pissed if the file servers got fucked.

We were down for about 2 days while I disabled accounts and forced everyone who alerted through the AV console or received the email (exchange logs) to turn their computers in to the helpdesk. Once I had it under control I turned the file servers back on. We only lost a few files that were SSRS report output files and could easily be regenerated anyway.

Of course, some users got fucked, but fuck them anyway. Should have been backing up their files on OneDrive like they were taught.

Which ones? Because I haven't found anything *I* can't adjust.

Win 8.1 is by far the best system out there. 10 is shit but still workable.

this is a legit cyber attack
criminal investigations are underway
most vulnerable systems are
XP
Server 2003
windows 7/8/8.1
patches have been sent out to fix the exploits used by this virus on these systems.

strangely enough though for windows 10 the exploit was a backdoor used by the NSA. ironic?

Let me guess, your problem is one of the following...

1. Inability to understand an interface that wasn't created in the 1990s
2. It didn't run well on the Gateway you bought in 2004 that technically meets minimum system requirements
3. Something about a hardon you have for *nix systems

Mhmmm that explains why 2 updates were installed past Tuesday and Thursday.

I'm a college cunt who shares a router with at least 5 or 7 faggots. ¿How is it possible my PC can get infected if one of these faggots have the virus?
>>
>>732562285

Let me guess, your problem is one of the following...

1. Inability to understand an interface that wasn't created in the year your wife's son was born
2. It didn't come on your store-bought HP tower that is definitely as good as any PC that someone can build
3. Something about a hardon for baby-tier interfaces on a pc
>>
>>732563099
Once one of the other "faggots" have the infection, the software spreads itself over the network. Sort of using their computer as a stepping stone. You could be patched, but if your friends aren't, you can get fucked anyway.

sad because encryption isn't hard to break, just takes a long time. unplug the hd and access it through a linux box after running every possible algorithm you have to dump random keys, probably just a weak ass shaw.
but who in their right mind doesn't backup their data to multiple devices? also who stores data worth $300+ on a pc they use to access the internet...AND who the fuck doesn't sandbox their OS/HDD? ANNNNDDD who really fucking doesn't isolate their pc from their lan with a custom linux firewall AND...

seriously though you have to be a stupid mother fucker to get this, or lazy (e.g. europe takes most of the cake).

To any here actually interested in how this works, it exploited a vulnerability in SMB v1 that was used by the NSA and leaked by the shadow brokers. It then generates pub/priv key pairs for every file with certain file extensions (doc,docs,jpg,png,exe,dll,etc..), encrypts the files with the pub keys, and then generates a 'master' key. Then it encrypts all the priv keys with the master key, which is encrypted with a custom algorithm and kept until payment is sent.
>>
>>732563147
Actually I'm a big fan of PowerShell, Group Policy and the Windows Registry. All make remote/central administration and automation amazingly easy. Security holes in the OS itself generally only exist as a result of improper configuration.

Now, if you want to say the OS ships improperly configured, I can't disagree with you on that.

too bad MS nickel and dimes you with packages and caters to a solid majority of admins that just click okay and think magic happens with their server, not saying that's you, just saying part of why outbreaks like this happen is because the average admin is an MS admin and just clicks okay when installing things and doesn't know much of anything else except adding users and maybe working with active directory

And you remove it by Commandprompt loading your machine then locating the individual files to remove, and the ones it's spawned, AND the ones in your system restore section.

It's long, it's tiresome, it's hard, but the good news is 90% of the time the encryption is a bluff.
