I recently tore my Achilles tendon. I feel and landed wrong while rock climbing.
That hurt, but that wasn't the wrost part.

The worst pain I've ever felt was in the ER about 2 hours later. An orthopedic doctor came in and did the Thompson test. For some reason, it caused my calf to cramp.
Now, usually, you can stretch out your foot to stop a calf cramp... but you need an Achilles tendon to do that. So my calf cramped.

I was rolling on the bed in agony. My friends said it cramped so badly, it was the size of a small grape fruit.

It lasted about 1 minute but felt like 1 hour.

About 30 seconds after it finished, it came back but worse.

I have a high pain tolerance. I presented with little pain when I had an appendix that's so big that it was touching my liver. But that was without a doubt the most painful thing I've ever felt in my entire life.

Blood Clot in left hip. Interesting thing about it was that all of the pain was on the right side. Started at my bellybutton and moved downward to the hip joint as well as lower back on the right side. Docs thought it was my appendix and did an ultrasound where they couldn't even find my appendix. It took a contrast CT to find it. Hourly doses of fentany to control the pain till the blood-thinners took hold.

I was run over by an SUV while on my motorcycle and dragged down the street.
Crushed all the bones in my lower body, tore off 2 + 1/2 muscles on one leg, degloved (look it up) the other.
Bones sticking out everywhere both legs.
Broke my spine and an elbow and some fingers too.
Pissed out a 1/4 inch kidney stone a year or so later that Dr.s said should have been removed surgically. Kidney stones about a 8.8/10 on the pain scale faggots.

They actually have no idea why kidney stones form in some poeple and not in others. All the common reasons - like not drinking enough water - are guesses. If you talk to doctors/read webMD type shit they will rattle off a bunch of risk factors... but good doctors - when pressed - will tell you no one knows why some people get them and other don't.

How do I know this? I work with in a lab that does some projects with NASA. One time, an older senior (super cool, super interesting,smart guy) NASA scientist came to lab to check things over. Over lunch someone asked him about long term space missions (i.e. Mars)l... and what are issues the NASA folks worry about at the water-cooler.

He listed some obvious ones. But then he said the biggest concerns weren't engineering but medical.. in particular, astronauts getting acute, life-threatening conditions for which there is no known screening/prevention. The biggest ones: ruptured appendix and kidney stones. So since the 80s+ they pumped a bunch of money into finding screening/prevention/root causes of both but have struck out.

I have kidney stones too. One time I made it to the ER with one running down each ureter. I remember begging them to kill me before I passed out. If I have to deal with kidney stones and occasional back pain for the rest of my life I will consider myself lucky because there are a lot of folks who have to deal with a lot worse.

I woke up after thoracic surgery screaming because they messed up the epidural. Got hit by a car while cycling, broke 5 ribs, left collarbone, dislocated ankle with a bunch of little fractures and a collapsed lung. The ribs/lung/collarbone combo sucked complete ass, I'd been a chronic smoker up until then, the constant coughing was agony.

Looks like this was a good time to visit! I have this ongoing pain syndrome. It's like having a mild sunburn all over my body and pins and needles. The docs are trying to figure out what causes this. It also has aggravated my anxiety.

So some days it's so bad I can't wake up and will sleep the whole day, and I'm very fortunate my family is provided for and I don't have to work. A lot of times I'll wake up with a anxiety attack. I've gotten upset a lot wishing I could get better.

Then a lot of bad shit this week, well it could be worse. Bad things happened to celebs I care about. Jonathan Davis broke his voice. I was going to see Ludovico Technique but a band member got really sick so they can't show up.

Basically if this happened in the past I'd be in in-patient psych right now. I've been there for having anxiety attacks thinking that I will kill myself. I now just say it's my mind fucking with me.

I'm nauseas and depressed and this week has been painful to me so much just auuugghh!

I woke up during my wisdom tooth surgery. I don't remember it at all (thank god), but they had just finished cracking my tooth in half and needed to pull it out as I was coming to. They rushed to get the tools out of my mouth and cut the sides of my lips (like the Joker) real bad. Other than that, I just recently experienced my first horribly-sprained-almost-broken anything. I feel safe in saying my monthly period cramps are 10,000x worse. Haven't gotten them checked out, but my ovaries literally feel like spinning, sharp, metal pinecones and the pain radiates pretty much throughout the entire area below my belly button (including the spinal region). Imagine a nine year old dealing with that kind of pain!

Man some great stories here. My most painful experience was when my entire neck cramped up out of nowhere. Only time it's happened in 30 years. Just came on all of a sudden and I couldn't move it. Pain came in waves of 5 seconds of relief followed by 30 seconds of intense cramping. Lasted around an hour, and I couldn't do anything about it, as I was in my apartment alone and couldn't even get the strength to move my head, or the pain would go from 7 to 10 in an instant. Was in tears the entire time. Around the 20 min mark I was considering bracing myself and smashing my head against my nightstand so I could hopefully pass out.

But thank god I dont have kidney stones at least.

The only way I've ever been able to dull it is by using a heating pad (turned up to the highest setting, around 170 degrees) on my bare skin, combined with 1600mg of ibuprofen.
