Family guy was good for 2 or 3 seasons, then Seth McFarlane proved he wasn't a good writer. He just point blank started taking material from other shows and shoehorning his played out "extra-long whatever" bits and emmy-bait musical numbers into every episode. So what does Fox do? They let him make more shows that follow the same formula with different characters. Tell an American Dad fan that the Trans Fat episode is a plot ripoff of a King of the Hill episode. King of the Hill and South Park up to 2005 or so were way better, because it wasn't LIKE TOTALLY ABSURDIST, BRO

I watched a lot of Simpsons in the early 00s and I really enjoyed it. Family Guy however does not fit my taste at all. It's pseudo-random jokes that go on for way too long without being actually funny (at least for me). They always feel like someone asked "what surreal thing would be fun here?" and then took the first answer that came in their heads. Don't get me wrong: I love nonsense humour (The Mighty Boosh and Monty Python are among my favourites). But Family Guy feels so forced.
