Serious response here. There are two known ways.
1st, is to perform a DoD wipe. This writes random numbers to the drive at least 7 times. This is enough to prevent reading even with an electron microscope.

2nd method is to incinerate the platters. Not just burn the outer shell, but the platters inside it must be incinerated.

Simply shredding the platters will not do as the data can still be read.
