Sounds kind of bullshit. Such a well known crack house that even the liquor store guy knows about it and the cops don't give a fuck at all?

Some problems are too big for a single arrest or raid. It's a culture that is unbreakable. If that house falls, another will rise.

I feel ya. I live in a city in the US where the largest homeless shelter is downtown right next to the tourist/bar district. Homeless fucks have free reign because cops have bigger problems than crusty bums. Tourists and bleeding heart liberals fund their addictions like its going out of style. This has gone on for years without check.

reviewed CCTV footage with cops when they got there: didn't even realise, but they got back in their car and tried to mow me down. Only thing that saved me was that I moved to avoid running into a telephone booth, and their car hit a curb trying to get me, and it got thrown into the air and onto a median strip. They drove away after that.

Don't understand why they didn't ask me to empty the till or some shit, but it was frightening as hell. Was only 18 at the time, found the cunt on facebook afterwards. Didn't even bother calling the cops, wouldn't have done anything anyway.

On that note; when I first started working there after it got dodgy I flicked through the incident log. Here's one story that stood out:

a) Not at all in the slightest prevented anything
b) Most definitely exacerbated everything

Where I worked was literally three blocks from the police station, but they were still useless.

One time some crazy drunk bitch threatened to be waiting for me with a knife after my shift because I apparently looked like her step dad (I was 19 at the time and definitely younger than her), then she started trying to kill herself by jumping in front of oncoming traffic. I called the cops, not because I gave a fuck about her but was more worried someone might crash and get hurt if they made the mistake of swerving to avoid her. They showed up 40 minutes later, which was 10 minutes after the ambulance had taken her to hospital.

Absolutely none got arrested. I can't carry a gun, welcome to Australia. Pepper spray is illegal here too. For a while I carried a taser, but when people started rolling through with guns I figured it wasn't worth it. Plus, if I ever used it; the cops would arrest me (same for pepper spray) and fuck up the career I studied so hard to get into (thank god I got out of that place).

At best we had a pole, and I ALWAYS carried a pocket knife which I had reasonable cause to (opening pallet wrappings, unboxing crates etc.) and it saved my life, quite literally, as described here:

Then our police adopt the Frontline 20/20 model. Now we have 'forward response groups' who go and respond, but their numbers have been halved, so average response time is like 20 minutes for serious crimes - even the police said it's "embarrassing". The rest of the force now is chasing up the volumes of volume crime, like shoplifting. So, they go and make shoplifting a minor offence; doesn't require police involvement. This fuels drug crime because criminals can now steal shit and, or steal alcohol and fuel more crime, which puts more pressure on the forward response groups; decreases response times and increases workload by investigative teams.

Then our police commissioner talks about how great his police force is and how much progress is made, while the capability is in shambles and maturity of the capability has been completely degraded to Brazil standards.

Still better than living in Brazil, mind you.

Besides - we live in a bubble. It's a bubble, but a cushioned, safe and quite frankly great one at that. Australia is a magnificent country and, as any country, we've got crime. Also, like most countries, most people believe it's not dealt with effectively.

But still it's rare (except in the shitty areas like the one I worked in) to experience violent crime in your life. Most of these stories are quite frankly not believed by the people I tell them to, if they live in anything resembling a decent area. They can't believe such shit goes on. And truly, if you move a couple km's out of the trouble zones, it's as safe as anything.

People don't just get murdered or mugged or assaulted, this happens in the trouble areas and mostly to people causing trouble anyway.

OP here, agreed. The majority of the homeless people who I knew through that job were decent, great people. Genuinely friendly, and extremely helpful. One of the homeless guys around the area, without being asked; went through and cleaned our entire front garden out the shop - removed around 10 or 12 needles, capped them; put them in a garbage bag and put them in the bins out the back of our shop. He also cleaned the leaves around our store, and found a broom and swept the footpath. After I checked the cameras to wonder who the fuck did it, I recognized it was him. He'd been in the store around five or six times since then, and hadn't mentioned a thing. When he came in the next time, I gave him a couple bottles of water and some chips/food, took him across the road and bought him some fish and chips for lunch, then bought him some groceries from the deli. He was so grateful he was apologetic and basically refused to take the goods before I made him take them. He was so fucking nice, such a great guy and I wish I would've done more for him. Didn't see him again after that.
