The US did not support Britain and France's overzealous punishment of Germany following WWI. The terms of Germany's surrender laid the foundation for Hitler. They were made to repay France and Britain for damages caused during the war and Germany was made to give up the Rhineland and Saar regions which accounted for a large portion of their GDP. This was particularly unfair as it left Germany shouldering the responsibility for damage caused by the Austro-Hungarian empire. This disproportionate punishment led to German resentment of the war guilt and the war debt.
Eventually, Germans grew tired of starving to death and the circumstances there made it easy for Hitler to rise to power.

tl;dr: Britain and France went full retard punishing Germany at the end of WWI and in doing so, created the conditions in Germany which allowed Hitler to rise to power.
