I think you're missing a few steps in the creation of Israel.

Starting in the late 19th century, Jews deciding they needed a homeland did exactly as you suggested. They went to Israel (then part of the Ottoman Empire) and bought land. After decades of this, the Ottoman Empire ended and the land came under British protection. The population at that point was mixed, still majority Arab muslim but with an increasingly sizeable Jewish minority. Tensions rose between the groups and England didn't want to administrate it forever. They made a plan to divide the land between the groups who were living there. There would be two states and several areas of neutral territory between and around them.

Right after the UN declared this partition, the surrounding Muslim States, opposing the existence of a Jewish state among them attacked, intending to destroy the newly formed Israel. With support from western allies, israel surprisongly fought back like a motherfucker.

Why don't Egypt and Israel work on a solution to partition part of Sinai to be the new Palestine? Clearly Israel is never going to give up land. in fact, they are working tirelessly to close and plug up gaps inside of their borders.
