Just your daily reminder that if you don't shave with a double edge razor, you're the cancer of the male race.

This may surprise you, but not everyone wants to make the act of shaving a 10-15 minutes sensory experience. Most people who shave just want to cut the hair on their faces as quickly as possible and with the least irritation and get on with their days.

So, in sum: tried it; waste of time and epidermis.

DE razors are just a good economic decision. I don't use a fucking badger brush with poraso soap as shaving cream. Just regular Barbasol in a can for $2 from Walgreens. But a pack of 30 Feather blades (superior nihon brand folded over 1000 times) is literally like $5 from eBay or amazon.
>>
>>731725379
It would always result in redness if I tried to get a shave as close as I would with a 3-bladed cartridge.

On the flipside, you can get a closer shave, and shave shorter hair without mutilating yourself (emphasis on "can"), but it's not worth the irritation. I will do it if I really want to be clean-shaven and not enough time has passed after my previous shave to repeat it with cartridge.

>>731725267
God you're stupid. Tell me, do you always voice your opinions, based on your absolute lack of knowledge?

You can use the DE and make it a small ritual. Fine.

But if you're in a hurry, it's the same deal. I make foam within 1 minute. The foam is much better than the one you buy in these tubes, usually also smells better. Shaving is faster than with the disposable shavers because you can have collect more foam with DE and it's easily cleared.

So yeah, if you're a beta faggot, you probably come up with dozen of excuses, but DE are actually better AND cheaper than disposable ones. If you are saying otherwise, you're delusional.

You can pick up a cheap DE and some blades for less than $10. First couple of times I got really red, tight and sore cheeks but after a couple of weeks I was OK with it if I was very careful. Now it's fast with no irritation or ingrowing hairs.

I only tried it because after years of different cartridges I still got bumps and ingrowing hairs.

Not overpriced. A quality razor will last decades (or more), a lot of good blades are at (or under) $0.20 each, most soaps will last a month or two, and brushes years. Spread over time I'm probably shelling out $50 a year to shave every day as opposed to $6 every four days with those billion blade models.

really pointing out the fact that you need to get "better" in order to use one of these makes me realize how fucking stupid of an item it really is.
Why the fuck would any idiot get something more difficult to use for the sake of some faggatory edgy manly hood ego.

This is equivalent to shitting out in the woods cause using a toilet is for pussy's, downgrading something purposely which technology already achieved for the sake of your pride.

I just soak in very hot water and then use a soft toothbrush and washing up liquid (I think you say "Scrubbing Bubbles" in the USA).

Give another soak in hot water and repeat scrub if need be. Once they're dry I use a metal polish (Simichrome) which I gently rub in with a cheap cloth and then buff out with a microfibre. Nothing complicated and usually comes up a treat.

Just be very careful with gold plating as some of them are a little sensitive to metal polish - GEM Micromatics especially.

Multiple razors are for retards that need to cover the same spot multiple times. This effectively means you are irritating the skin needlessly for which is only a gimmick.

Double edge razor, decently lathered shaving soap and you its a once over job. No skin irritation and no cuts. Stop being a faggot all your life.
>>
I'm a fan of Dollar Shave Club personally. Pay a few bucks a month and get shit delivered to you. Sure they're mostly just DORCO blades with a few changes (extra support around the blade heads), but they have other good shit like shave butter, after shave cream, and one wipe charlies. and if something goes wrong just write in and they replace shit -- i write in every so often and just get free shit, gotta do it sparingly though or they put a stop on it

Daily reminder, if you aren't capable of keeping up with modern technology, you are a moron.
>>
>>731730831
I'd agree but as I pointed out I got severe irritation with several brands of cartridge razor. I switched to a DE to see if it helped and after practice I found it did.

There can be a problem for some people that cartridge razors snag and pull hairs. Especially multiblades where the first blade pulls the hair slightly out from the skin and then the second blade cuts the hair at a very low point which then retracts under the skin and can cause an ingrown hair. These can be very painful and unsightly.

I agree there are some cringe DE users online though who think it makes them seem like Sean Connery in his prime.
>>
>>731731271
Daily reminder that if you value overpriced modern gimmicks over the proven reliability of older tech then you're retarded.
>>
>>731731102
Never used it. If you can have a good shave with cartridges then it seems decent. I get irritation from cartridges unfortunately.

Feathers mainly. But I have a love/hate affair with Sharks. Since I started growing a chin beard, I only shave my neck.

Or order a pack of 100 online for the same price as a single normal razor

I use a safety razor and it cuts much better than any of the multiblades I've owned, I highly recommend them. also clearing hair out of them is super easy, cause you can just open it up.
>>
>>731731762

Also Edwin Jagger.....They seem to be quite cheap compared to a 'premium' brand like Merkur.

My DE89 rubber grip is perfect. Although I'd like one with a different handle.

Perhaps even an open comb one. Looking to get a Merkur next.

Never tried it. Got pissed when gilette stopped making carts for my triple blade razor and they wanted $20 for a plastic piece of ship handle and replacement carts were $5 a piece.

Bought a decent DE for $35 with 10 blades and haven't looked back. Last time I bout blades at the pharmacy they were a buck for 10. Win.
>>
>>731731775
My favourites are Wickhams and Saponifico Varesino. A bit pricey but a puck lasts me for over a year and I shave 3-4 times a week.
>>
>>731732214
Yeah, either of those will have a box of 100 for like $30

That's more razor handles than you will ever need though, you'll have to buy more blades later if you don't want to use every single prep razor.
>>
>>731732276
Same here. Got tired of paying $5 per cartridge so I tried DE. Works FAR better and is cheaper.
>>
>>731731102

I checked it once, it's a waste of money. DE shaving is cheaper most of the time...

Although if cartridge shaving is your thing, it might work out even depending on how often you shave.

I whole-heartedly recommend DE shaving though. I was a cartridge shaver at first. But it's really therapeutic, and so interesting.
>>
>>731725359
Astra super platinum or super stainless, or feather. Feather are fucking beautiful.
>>
>>731731932
I tried a lot of pre and post and nothing seemed to help. Now I'm using a DE it seems like a quality shaving soap is most important and a little moisturiser afterwards - nothing expensive just cheap store brand stuff. I use my missus's.
>>
>>731732682
Plus, having the blades on hand is nice.
So fucking useful when you need an incredibly sharp blade
>>
>>731732935

DE shaving has almost no disadvantages, unless you're planning to shave whilst travelling. I hear it's difficult to get it onboard airliner luggage.

Fucking terrorists ruining our shaving.
>>
>>731722480
So what's the cheapest de razor worth buying?
>>
>>731732022
You can get cheap plastic DE's from India on Ebay. They're really light and seem a bit weird at first but are good upon use. Literally under $2 shipped.

There is also a copy of the now dicontinued Merkur Futur being knocked out from China now as well. A solid metal adjustable DE for around $2 shipped and I've read that they're really good.

Whatever you do though don't buy blades from China. Absolutely awful knock-offs that don't do the job.
>>
>>731733155
Then the airport staff near me is incompetent.
>>
>>731733185

Depends where you are. There are always 'newbie' kits available.

Razors, Edwin Jagger do great cheap ones. In fact, Feather are doing they're own razors now.

So long as it isn't dollar store tier, you should be fine with any brand. It's more the blades that make the shave, and not the razor.
>>
>>731729518
With a saftey (double edge) razor it only took me 2-3 shaves to get used to the difference I recommend buying good blades though, they don't have to gr8 just avoid the shitty one like gillette.
>inb4 not calling gillette shitty but they do make low quality DE

I guess it's not a bad idea if you're simply curious about DE shaving. But I went straight out and bought an Edwin Jagger razor, it was fairly cheap for my budget.

You need the weight and grip of a proper razor to promote proper technique, a plastic one is just gonna turn you off the idea of DE shaving tbh.

You CAN pick them up at thrift stores and garage sales though. Reddit it full of them. (haha) /r/WickedEdge

I switched from dollar shave club to DE. I had mid level tier dollar shave club razor and they were fine honestly, I switched because overall DE is cheaper and I think it's a better quality shave, but I would recommend them if you are going to stick with cartage razors.

>>731734149

Oh yes. That's why I wouldn't recommend a specific blade for someone starting out in DE shaving, but rather suggest one of the many sample packs available on Amazon (and other places on line). That way you can find the blade that works the best for your razor and your face.

soak face with a hot washcloth for ~2 minutes
apply shaving cream
shave
rinse face with hot water, then cold water
apply no aftersahve

With a safety razor it's easy as hell. Just remember for the first few times to not push hard with the razor, lean it against the skin at an angle and let the weight of the safety razor be the pressure you apply. Do short strokes instead of long dragging ones, then rinse and repeat. The first few times you shave until you get the hang of it go for hair reduction not hair removal. Know that you're going to have to shave once, re-lather then do a second shave removing more hair. You might have to do three full shave to remove all you hair depending.

After a few shaves you figure out quickly how much pressure to apply and how to get a full shave in 1-2 shaves.

>OSHA's respiratory protection standard (29 CFR 1910.134) specifies certain requirements for employers to follow when their employees must wear respirators, which would be the case in sewage treatment facilities. The standard states that the employer cannot permit respirators with tight-fitting facepieces to be worn by employees who have facial hair that comes between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face, or that interferes with valve function. While the standard does not ban beards per se, it does require employers to ensure that bearded employees who are required to wear tight-fitting facepieces trim their beards so that they do not interfere with the sealing surface of the respirator or are not so large that they could interfere with valve function.

I picked up a DE Gillette from the 50s at an antique shop a few years ago and haven't looked back. If I am trying to get back to babyface I just use an electric razor first, but neck and fine tuning DE all the way.

I feel pretty pampered after I finish. Was gifted a straight razor a few years ago but never got it properly sharpened and am too cheap to get a decent strop.
