But, since you asked, I'd say that gender is a social construct that normally has its basis in secondary sex characteristics. Gender is far more than just phenotype, however, it also comes loaded with both external (social) and internal expectations. Most people don't identify COMPLETELY with their gender expectations, but some identify less or perhaps more with another gender, etc. That's where the spectrum comes in. I think of it as hyper masculine on one end and hyper feminine on the other. Everything else in between is just "other". And most of us are to some degree "other". Gender dysphoria is not a mental illness, it's just a state in which an individual is caused psychological distress by trying to conform to artificially delineated expectations, whether they be external or internalized.

Body dysmorphia (e.g. I'm really a woman on the inside and want to cut my penis off to be one) is certainly a psychological disorder. And it's not unique to gender expression either... Some people with dysmorphic ideations want to cut off their leg because they will feel more comfortable as an amputee for example.

A problem occurs when people conflate gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia.

But all of those weird hyper-specific new "genders"? Yeah that's bullshit, imo. Just people wanting to feel special. I mean, we could get infinitely specific, but it doesn't do us any good, scientifically. We could come up with a name for ab gender that means you identify as 98% male, 2% female, your name is Josh, and you stubbed your left pinky toe..

Not a gender or sexuality expert though. My areas of expertise are legal psychology, stats, and cognitive psych.

Now if theres a glass on the floor next to it and my girlfriends entering the room with a paper towel, it now has probative weight. As in its highly likely almost certain thats what happened.

But even then i could confidently say "yep she spilt water there" and its extremely highly likely im correct.

The fact a million children got vaccines and then got autism is evidence it causes autism. And to the parents of those children, its proof because their emotions are high and theyre subject to cognitive dissonance. They then gain confirmation bias and every case of a child with autism who was vaccinated is more proof.

But when you look at all the evidence and all the facts, we know that vaccines dont.

Science doesnt speak in absolutes for that reason. They only speak in highly likely and highly unlikely. Proof is extremely hard to come by.

Whether the connections you draw between the evidence you can garner is besides the point, as you have said before, you can have weak correlation, or even none; the glass does not have to be on the floor to substantiate or give probable cause to believe that there is either a leak or something was spilled. The correlation or lack thereof, and thus the causation, does not change the fact that there would still be the proof of a pool of water on your floor.

There is proof of water on your floor. Evidence can serve as a plural for many proofs, but evidence itself is proof. The water doesn't disappear because it turns out you have a leak instead of a clumsy girlfriend. Whatever the cause, it is there. It is evidence. Evidence is proof.

You can have proof of something being spilled when there is a pool of water on your floor that usually does not happen to be. You do not have enough evidence to support this theory, but you have enough cause to warrant this conclusion, exactly because of correlation. Provided, correlation is not causation, so while you have proof of something being spilled, you don't have enough proof to make this claim exactly true.

But you've said things that are more concerned with the causation and the correlation, than the proof. While these parents can believe that vaccines cause autism, it does not make them right. You've said as much. They can do exactly that, by looking at all the evidence and all the facts- and being influenced by other forces and circumstances beyond evidence itself, to selectively adhere to evidence that supports their bias.

The evidence itself doesn't say anything at its core. It's just data and observation. It takes human beings to parse that information and draw conclusions, logical or otherwise. Correlation, causation; correlation is not necessarily causation
