Do not buy a used BMW, ever. The parts and maintenance are expensive as fuck.
>>
As long as the PO wasn't a douchebag ricer or whatever the german car equivalent is, seems like a nice ride.

Sadly, these cars attract idiots.

Used cop Crown Victoria. Extremely cheap, parts costs next to nothing because there's a shitload of em, and these cars are made to last.

The problem with bmw is that if you dont get original parts, they will break really fast
If you want german car, try with volkswagen, they have cheap replacement parts, and are kinda long lasting
Audi is sink with a hole, same as BMW
Japanese cars are really good if you dont care much about looks of the car, then again parts can be cheap/expensive, depends on the models and rarity in your country
Chezh cars are cheap for maintaince if older models, new ones are quite expensive with parts, to the point where bigger frontal damage can exceed the value of car itself in parts
French cars are comfortable for driving, great if bought new, but shit if you buy them used
Dont think at all about envlish cars, expensive parts, almost noone want them if you wanna sell it, its not worth the money at all

The BMW 3 is the most popular car in the world for a reason. They do cost more to fix, but they also almost never break.

My gf just paid off her ML500. $8000, 65K miles and all it has ever needed was a break booster, which was probably why it got traded in in the first place.

We both love this thing and will probably have it until 200K miles.

Some parts.

Which parts are you talking about?
You can find expensive parts for every car

>>
>>731672249
Get it. E36s are sick as fuck and if you're not a pussy and know how to buy and install parts then maintenance is no biggie.

If you can find one with a freshly rebuilt engine that'll save you a lot of hassle though
>>
>>731674070

If the car needs a rebuild that's gonna cost you for sure. But you don't always need to buy oem parts. Bmws are very popular and forums will tell you the best places to get parts.
>>
>>731675270
year of production?
>>
>>731672249
Don't let people scare you off with the E36, that car is solid AF and parts are cheap. The repairs are easy because it's old and isn't packed tight like a japanese rat's nest engine. Mine treated me really well, i did all my maintenance myself in my driveway with minimal tools. Only thing to be wary of is make sure you swap out the water pump impeller with a metal one so it doesnt explode. Have fun! That is honestly one of the most solid "feel the road" driving cars, and certainly the last and best of BMW's lineup. From then on they become fly-by-wire with this numbness...

Since we're already talking about BMWs:
I could either get a 325i or a 318i, both touring and e46 with ~ 70,000 miles for 4k - 5k. The 318i is in better condition but has a slightly higher milage for about 1k more than the 325i.
What should I go for?

if you only have 1k don't spend it on a BMW m8. theres probably a bunch of thing wrong with it and it will end up costing you a lot of money

if you really need a car now you are better off buying a cheaper brand or an older car with some small damages that is mechanically in good condition so it won't break down until you can afford a better car

i didn't have a lot of money either when i had to get rid of my previous car but like you didn't want to drive a plactic shitbox so i bought this glorious piece of crap really cheap (pic related). best car i ever had

You realise that's the ass end of cheap cars right? Although to be fair, if it's been looked after and does have huge mileage, a Ka of that age will last you. Cheap to run, fix and insure.
You'll realise pretty quickly that you look better with a crap functional car than your old BMW (by the way, driving an old Bremerhaven just screams 'i want a nice car but I can't afford one) that isn't running because you can't affotd to fix/run it.

If you're that bothered, just get a polo or fiesta, they're cheap and if it's been looked after they still look pretty tidy.

Don't drive an automatic
>>

If your buying e39 or e46, avoid automatics. The boxes are GM items and will fail at around 100k. Go manual. A clutch is only 100 quid.

No. Not a hard job - parts >>> labor, Particularly the $$$ tranny fluid. I'm pretty sure it's Ford fluid but my mech says it ain't.

Smooth and fast machine. Just not much fun.

If someday you drive a Ferrari you'll understand how stupid this is.

Stop looking at track times and start learning how to trick car salesmen into letting you take a test drive.

Not the guy, but I can't stand euopean cars. Japanese cars feel like cars, while european ones feel like boats.
