Dogs are useful for a number of different tasks, depending on what the specific breed was intended for. Hunting, tracking, and searching for specific substances are just a few of the things that dogs are tremendously useful towards. Most people however, tend to get dogs for companionship, as they are also very loyal and affectionate animals. Thousands of years of being with humans has made dogs particularly good companions, and with all the effort that has been put into breeding them, it's no secret that dogs are the longest running genome experiment in human history.

That's true. I should have specified I'm afraid of getting bitten in a way that does a lot of damage like loss of blood, infection, etc. That seems more common with dogs, though not all dog bites would lead to that.

I work in a animal hospital. Take care of any kind of dogs. Pitbulls, German Shepard, American Bulldog, Dogo Argentino...I give injections, take blood from them ...they are always kind ...was never bitten. There is no reason to be afraid

You're misunderstanding my argument completely. A domesticated animal implies that it is safe to interact with humans, unlike a wild animal. Dogs have the character of wild animals yet are considered to be domestic.

So yeah part of my problem with dogs has to do with dog owners. But that's inevitable, since there are (fortunately) very few stray dogs. I still think that every once in a while a dog's instincts can take over and that can have deadly consequences.

My guess is no one of you have been attacked by dogs when you were younger, otherwise you would feel differently.

You know they say cars are completely safe and they're even tested extensively before being sold to the public, but something could still go wrong causing an otherwise safe car to explode or malfunction in a number of ways resulting in your death. Cats are supposed to be safe, but they have been proven to carry toxoplasmosis, which happens to be a significant cause of schizophrenia. Don't go through life being a pussy. Dogs are much more likely to attack you if they can tell you're afraid of them. They respect confidence.

I am inclined to disagree. Dogs are carnivores so their meat will taste very differently from conventional red meat. It should taste gamey and texture wise it should be much tougher than beef.
