Plenty of people love Star Wars but aren't turned on by "real" sci-fi, and vice versa. Of course, you also have proper human beings who recognize that there's some amazing stuff and some garbage in just about every category, with most being somewhere in the middle.

For example:
Empire Strikes Back = God Tier Star Wars.
Phantom Menace (sans Podrace and Duel of the Fates fight scene) = Shit Tier Star Wars.
