A long time ago there was a /b/tard who made a site called anonidate. Essentially the same idea. It allowed people to use it anonymously and incorporated google maps so that you could see and message other anons in your area.

I don't know what happened to it. I went to check on it some time ago and it was gone. I remember the anon who made it saying that it was running on an unused server at his work (obviously his work had no idea). Maybe he got found out and it was taken down.

Anyway, it was somewhat successful. I remember some anons in /b/ threads talking about meeting their girlfriend/boyfriend through there, some had even gotten married. That said, this was several years ago, back before the site got flooded with /pol/niggers and /r9k/ social retards. Back then there was a stronger sense of camaraderie in /b/. No idea how well it would work these days. I for one have no interest in hanging out with /pol/niggers or /r9k/ autismos irl.

I encourage anondates users to share which boards they frequent and put it on their profile, as I think it tells you quite something about the person.

I know about anonidate, basically anondates is more of a traditional dating site, although more suited to anonymous needs.

But yeah, I'm really not sure if this will work out or not, as of right now it's just a fun little side project of mine and if I see it going nowhere or terribly off rails I can always kill it with fire.

Oh the things I've seen over the years. Early on 4chan died several times. The last time it happened moot started taking donations and camwhores on /b/ started stripping in threads in exchange for users promising to donate money. The mods would allegedly ban users who didn't make good on their promise to donate and eventually 4chan made enough money to survive. It was a crazy time, we called it Donate Or Die.

If you're interested, the way anonidate worked was that users would create an anonymous account and place a male/female marker on a map. This account could contain tags like /b/tard, gamer, otaku, furry, etc... (initially it was all just /b/tards but over time more categories were added). I think it had support for traps as well. Users could filter out categories they weren't interested in.

Users would interact by clicking on each other's markers on the map and could directly send messages to each other that way.

It got a ton of users during the chanology protests since people co-opted it as a way of organizing irl (not that it made a difference, chanology was still just really embarrassing for 95% of the people involved).
