If you're going to go custom, get something made to fit your face by someone who has experience in designing and fabricating masks. Maybe fibre reinforced resin, or something similarly durable and relatively lightweight. Keep the design fairly unobtrusive, and unaggressive. In some parts of the world, police can compel you to remove your mask, and even confiscate it.

You don't want to have issues securing it to your face, and you also don't want to have much additional weight on the front of your face, because it will generally put strain on your neck.

Consider going for a half-face mask that covers the top half of your face completely along with your cheeks.

And remember, people generally don't wear masks in public, so expect to receive looks regardless.

Honestly op, I feel like you have three options.
Firstly the pragmatic one. Just get a neutral colored bandana, it maybe one with a flag on it, and some dark sunglasses. Obviously you shouldn't wear that into an airport or a bank, but it should be fine in public places, if not a little suspicious.

Second, the full blown option. Get one of those Venetian masks that cover your whole face, or something like a plague doctor mask. You'll look like a tard, but I bet it'll be better than being treated like a freak.

It's not cheap and not easy to do right, you could easily end up looking like a huge fag but if you do some research it looks pretty nice if you have the right build for it.
