Hey /b/ros who here hunts and has a license to carry a gun?

> Be 22
> Total liberal, white priviledge, papmpered suburban kid
> Dad is a Vietnam vet and is always taking my younger brother hunting
> I want to go with them but I have never fired a gun let alone held on to one
> I don't know where to go to get my license to carry a gun and to be quite frank I don't know what sort of gun I would have to purchase. They hunt for deer.
> I do not know why I am such a beta faggot

What type of gun should I purchase and when I go to get my license is it like going to get your drivers license?
>>
>>730676142
It really depend on what state you live in. Every state has their own gun laws.
>>
the hell does your race or political opinion have to do with hunting?

Simple, ask you father. Im sure he would be stoked to help you finally act like a man for once in your life. He's probably tired of telling his friends you're his step son instead of telling them that you're his.
>>
>>730676142

Seriously, just tell your dad you want to go with them. They'll more than likely be happy to help you through the process of getting licensed and finding the right tool to use.

depends on where you live, but the majority of states do not require a license to own a firearm. just 18 to buy and own a rifle and 21 to buy and own a handgun.
>>
>>730676142
We require the name of the state you reside in to proceed to the requirments for owning a firearm and a carry permit
>>
>>730676142
You're hunting deer so you want a decent sized calibre (I'm assuming you're famIlya prefers rifles)
If you're going with a shot gun which I guess I get but eh get a real gun. Just grab a 12 guage some buck shot and slugs.
If you're going for a rifle get something like a .308 or .338 if you're a big boy. Very popular rounds for big game hunting. Also getc something that can atleast shoot 2 rounds consecutively without having to cock or reload. Your aims most likely going to be shit if you've never shot so that 2nd trigger pull can be handy
>>
Unless you live somewhere like California you won't need anything to own a gun.
For a total boob I would suggest going to a gun store and finding an affordable .223 bolt action rifle.
You might be able to find one with optics on it already, if not you might be able to sweet-talk them into installing some for you if you buy them.
>Get some cheap fmj target ammo for practice, and a box of lead nosed bullets for hunting
>schedule yourself for a hunter safety course, just google how
>go to a gun range and sight in your rifle, the people there might show you how, if not I bet there's tutorials on YouTube
>practice your shooting, and after you get your hunter safety card you can buy a deer tag to go hunting
>???
>profit
Also remember to get stuff to clean and maintain your rifle and also get some camo clothes

Must be heartbreaking to be your father. Can you imagine when youngest was born how happy he was to have 2 hunting buddies for life. One takes to it the other turns into a liberal Anti-fa who exclusively faps to cuck porn and hates his own race while youngest and dad enjoy sun rises and shore breakfast together. Dad probably talks about you to him. Feels more connected to youngest. Youngest is probably depressed cuz older kids at school talk about the cool shit their older brothers are into. He gets stuck with you. Probably claims youre only a half brother or adopted. Youngest brother probably lays in bed at night day dreaming of having awesome older brother to do hunting adventures and shenanigans with. Father probably fights back tears as oldest rants about sjw tier shit and dyes hair like gay rainbow. Father cant understand what he did wrong. Blames himself for your weird shit. Spirals deeper into secret depression. Fights back tears every time you leave the room.
Fuck you for hurting the man who wanted to love you on a level you cant comprehend anon.

I go hunting with my old man and a mate of his every month. Started off with pest control, shooting Hares on this blokes farmland, then as I got older, progressed into Deer. Good fun.

You don't need anything to own a gun in California. No state in the US requires a licence to buy a firearm. OP must be Canadian or some shit.

Yeah, but it's all restricted and shit there
>>730678634
You also won't have to buy extra ammo to sight in optics, just a box of like 30.
Also don't pull that $1 per bullet shit with me, I bought an arisaka at a gun show last year, do you even know how much 6.5jap costs? Like at least 2 bucks a round, I spent 100 on the rifle and then had to turn around and pay like $40 for a box of 20 shells just to use the thing.
>>
>>730679072
>You also won't have to buy extra ammo to sight in optics, just a box of like 30.
Oh yeah this is for hunting. I was thinking he was just going out target shooting.
>Also don't pull that $1 per bullet shit with me, I bought an arisaka at a gun show last year, do you even know how much 6.5jap costs? Like at least 2 bucks a round
I have a .338 lapua, for decent ammo I'm paying $5 a round.
>>
>>730680053
>decent ammo
Dood, it's $2 a shot for just plain box fmj of 6.5jap
But $5 a shot in .338 is probably worth the price at 500+ yards
>>
>>730680190
.338 Lapua is worth it at any distance
>>
>>730680576
I take it back. OP has never shot he should probably start on a .300 win mag or something. I don't think he'll be shooting 400+

Why don't you ask him? Tell him you're interested in maybe joining them the upcoming season? If he enjoys hunting with your younger brother he would probably be overjoyed at your interest.

Look up your state's forest and game/wildlife/fish management agency, they will have instructions on their site as to how to find a hunter's education course in order to get a hunting license which is required to hunt most game even if a category of game does not require permits.
They should teach you how to safely handle a firearm and some basic hunting topics then test you on knowledge. Some states include a brief live fire portion, some don't. I think I fired a 410 shotgun and a 22lr rifle during my certification.

>Hickok tends to meander a little bit but his information is usually sound.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_safety#Rules_and_mindset
>Know, understand, and observe these rules.

An ideal first rifle for developing good fundamentals is a 22lr rifle. It's not what people usually want to hear but it is the honest truth. You can usually pick up a Ruger 10/22 with a scope package for around $300 new.
If you can afford to spare the time, buy a few bricks of ammo and attend an Appleseed event, they will teach you a great deal about rifle proficiency for a very low price.
https://appleseedinfo.org/

Do you mean license to carry a concealed weapon? Because that is a large responsibility and should not be undertaken lightly or without a healthy degree of respect for life, firearms, and at least a functioninal knowledge of self defense law in your state. Permit requirements vary heavily by state from a simple background check up to mandatory live fire courses.

No shit? I'm just over in Sumner. They offer a hunter's education course at the Sumner Sporting Association, or at least did in the past.

That's a bummer. I was proud but a little conflicted. My shot only winged the grouse and I wasn't strong enough to whip-snap it's neck so I had to stand on it until it died. Once we cooked it up and ate it I felt better and was left with a much larger respect for making ethical shots.

One thing you have to realize is that farm raised animals spend much of their existence in misery, as long as you aren't being an asshole while you are harvesting game it's morally equal at worst to buying meat in a grocery store.

IMO.
Hunting for food is the most noble reason to have a gun. Defense is the second. Feeding one's family should be the only reason to hunt.
>Thou shalt eat what thou kills.
That should be a universal law - maybe even prevent some murders.
The most base use of a gun is sport hunting.
Sport hunters should die by fire. They are immoral and dangerous to any society. Killing for fun should be universally illegal everywhere.

Americas first founders left England to get away from an oppressive king. Yet here we are today, dealing with the same "kings fish, kings game, kings woods" bullshit our ancestors fought a war to get rid of. We let our own govt. cuck us all over again.

Invest is a .308 bolt action, and a decent scope. at least 4x32.

Get in a bit of target practice on the range first, I cannot stress enough how much I wouldn't recommend going out without familiarizing yourself with your rifle. No point ruining the trip, ruining the carcass, or wounding a deer you couldn't kill clean.

You don't need anything bigger than a .308 if you're hunting deer, I usually use 25-06, it's a wildcat of 30-06. But really, there's no use making it more complicated and expensive than it has to be. .308 Winchester is good enough, cheap enough, common enough.

Being that you're new to it, you probably shouldn't be shooting at anything over 200 yards, but anything over 100-150 is still a bit ambitious for someone without any experience.

Again, talk to your father about it and he'll set you up with the info you need.

a legal resident alien (green card) can purchase and own firearms. i don't believe you need to be a permanent resident or citizen. normal federal and state restrictions apply.

You require a license to hunt, not to carry a gun. You put the tag on the deer after you kill. If they find you with a gun and no tag, but no deer. you're fine. If they find you with a deer and no tag, you're fucked. I can carry a gun with no license.

.308 bolt action is really the way to go. People might try to say a .223 or something for less kick, but you really want something bigger to get a clean kill for deer.

not even reading the replies, but basically every state is different. on average you just go to a local walmart or cabelas/bass pro and ask for a day or year hunting license which includes all small game. Mostly rabbits, quail, etc. Best first timer gun for hunting is a 20 gauge shotgun. If you're a bit beefier and can handle some more kick then a 12 gauge. If you want to go the accuracy route and be "cool" buy a .22 LR rifle. ruger 10/22 is a good one.

Me.

I do both.

But I wasn't raised this way. I was raised by hippies that sold out and became pretty much standard liberal baby boomer adults with good jobs. So both parents saw guns as evil, minorities as good, hunting as a cultural problem.

Then I got my first job working outdoors all year with a lot of rednecks. My dad was always a liberal pussy who didn't raise me at all (me and my brother fended entirely for ourselves). Don't get me wrong, he always paid the bills and bought groceries, but no guidance....

These rednecks mentored me and played father figure roles to me when I was in my late teenage years. Taught me everything a man should know. Taught me about women, guns, hunting, fishing, drinking, fighting, etc....

I'm very thankful for those years. Had I never had them, I probably would never know how to be a man....

I still hunt and I own numerous guns.

Well rip me. US Embassy website says if you're a skilled worker with a job lined up, but doesn't specify what skilled worker is. My contract finishes in 1 year 8 months and I fell in love with the states when I holidayed there.

Maybe ill just move to Mexico first and sneak across, they dont seem to send you back if you're from beanerland.

if you can get a green card to work here, there are a few ways to establish citizenship, one of them serving in the military. i have my doubts as to whether you could get clearance to serve on a sub as a foreigner but the skills should translate into numerous industries i would think. maybe you could get on with some american maritime company and establish residency through them.
do your research and don't give up.

funny that a lot of people come here on vacation and just refuse to leave, working under the table at restaurants and shit. was hilarious to see boatloads of them get fired protesting trump instead of going to their jobs.

Just talk to your dad about hunting advice. Unless if you really shit the bed with your relationship with him, he should be fine with it.

Hunting usually is done with a shotgun. Get a Mossberg or Remington 870. The Mossberg is a couple hundred dollars cheaper but Remington is reputably superior.... though in all reality, these days they're about equal in quality. Mossberg's reputation as an "economy quality" gun comes from their first few years where they were a bit sketchy, but they've been good for 2 decades now.

For hunting deer or other large game you want shotgun shells with slug or sabot, basically a big chunk of lead that fires solid. For rabbits buckshot, and for birds, bird shot.

And for a quick bit of great fun, get one of those clay pigeon shooters.... nothing more fun than having a few beers out in the boondocks and shooting clay pigeons.

Tacoma here. Hunting rifles can be purchased at any gun store without needing a licence to carry or to hunt. As >>730682710 suggested, hunter's safety course is a good idea.

Bolt action guns in the neighborhood of .30 caliber is a good place to start.

BTW, open carry is legal in Washington. Concealed carry of handguns will need a permit.
>>
>>730676142
Rabbits are a great introduction to hunting. Find the briar patches in fall, that's where they hide/nest.

Make sure you wear jeans, and preferably another layer of something like carthartt coveralls. Those briars will fuck your shit up if you're not wearing enough layers...

The first time I went rabbit hunting in a massive network of briars the thorns shredded my legs because my khaki pants offered no protection... But I did get 3 rabbits in about an hour. It was a great spot...

>i'm not aware of there even being any ballistic testing data for the cartridge out there beyond china's insistence that it good you western pig
I've seen some people in hong kong do real tests on it. It is basically 5.56 just like Russian 5.45. For penetration is goes 5.8>5.56>5.45. For trauma it's the opposite 5.45>5.56>5.8. I believe China's thinking was that they wanted to penetrate body armor and light cover more effectively. The Russia's went with the opposite and made their 5.45 a tumbling little fuck that'll nearly always kill you unless it has to go through something first. 5.56 is middle of these two. Not too much penetration and not to much tumble. In a realistic firefight none of this matters though, they would all do pretty much the same performance.

Fugg. That would be ideal though, being a Marine technician submariner in the RAN, I could basically just shimmy into the role.

Is it possible to get in the military at all to gain citizenship, or is the embassy site outdated? I could easily be trained to work on any platform from ships to trucks or general electrician work.

And kek, that was pretty funny, especially with people protesting it. Its like THEY ARE LITERALLY THERE ILLEGALY.... What part dont those dumb lefties not get?

right wing faggots go on and on about how illegal immigration is so terrible. If we threw some CEOs in prison for employing illegal immigrants, the problem would clear right up.

But then there'd be a bunch of rightwingers hypocrite traitors to the country in jail. We'd have to throw President Shitsandwich in jail cause you know that grifting piece of shit employees illegal immigrants while he yammers on about how it's so terrible.

Which I guess would be alright. It would be great to have Trump raped in prison repeatedly.

Alright OP, not reading anything anyone says, but it looks like they're jist nig nogging around. Here's what you do. If you can, just literally ask you're fucking dad to teach you. Boom, you save yourself a bunch of money. If you can't, you'll need to buy 6 things.
1) a bolt action 22 lr rifle to train on
2) 22 lr ammo, which is cheap as fuck
3) a rifle in a decent caliber, with a decent barrel and trigger. Your best bet for being cost effective is some sort of Remington 700 in a 308 (7.62x51).
4) ammo for the rifle to train with. Buy something decent, Remington corelokt or some shit like that, and go to town. Your maximum range is whatever distance you can hit a 8" diamater paper plate at 10 times with 10 rounds. For a beginner though, don't go past 200 your first time hunting.
5) a decent scope. Doesn't have to be some super expensive end all scope with a bunch of bells and whistles. For ease of use, go with a Nikon p308 if you're getting your hunting rifle in a 308. It'll be your best bet.
6) a bug bunch of 8" diameter paper plates. It'll be cheaper than targets, and the biggest you'll ever need.
There you go. As you can tell, it'll be easier if you just ask your dad. But he'd be more impressed if you do it yourself. At this point of you're teaching yourself, worry more about hitting the paper and staying in an area rather than how close you can get your groupings.
