There are many options, one is to not let your cat outside another is to have a cage with food in it, we have had those to catch the Finnish version of raccoons but sometimes our cats go in there and smell like fish for a couple of days.

Pic related is a stray I took in about a year ago. It took a few weeks of feeding him to win his trust. Since then he's been almost like a little puppy, following me everywhere, and wanting to constantly be by my side. He still doesn't like for me to pick him up at all. He wants to sit in my lap constantly, but if I actually pick him up it's almost like he's fighting for his life. I'm pretty sure whoever abandoned him had been mean to him. He was nearly starved to death when I found him, and the collar on his neck was way too tight. His voice is still very weak because of it. He took to living indoors very well, so I'm pretty sure he was accustomed to it already. I think he's been fixed too, because he's not the least bit aggressive towards the other cats around here, and doesn't seem to go nuts like the others when they are in heat.
