No, I'm not talking about human rights or such. I'm talking that every 3,000 - 5,000 miles you take your car in for an oil change. Every 30,000 miles you change some belts and filters. You don't leave you computer in the shed that leaks during a freezing rain shower.

If you are wanting to have your slaves operating efficiently like you do all of your other work tools, you have to take care of them. Starve them, and they become too weak to work and get sick. Don't give them fresh water, they get sick. Don't give them shelter from the elements when they are supposed to be resting, and they don't get proper rest and wear out.

Exactly. Low skilled / low intelligence labor has sharply declined over the years.

Think about slavery in terms of any other form of employment. Sure, you would have to keep your slaves clothed fed and housed, but your employers currently have to do that now in modern times - or else they would have no functioning employees as well as no customers to buy their products.

Essentially we now have "slavery" with more steps, but back then it was like a safety net for blacks - which have proven time and time again that they don't know how to spend or invest their money. They don't know how to buy healthy food, invest in healthcare or homes, or save past a weekly paycheck if they even have a job.

Now society essentially pays all the same welfare costs of keeping and rearing a slave, without actually getting any of the production out of them. They get free food, more money for the more kids they have, free cell phones, free healthcare, all the grants and programs any reasonable person could use to pick themselves up - but they never do and never will and have no incentive to. Modern slavery has changed its face, but it's still here.

I think slavery would change a bit in today's time. For example, if I bought 3 half decent negroes and a negress, I could have them working at, let's say mcdonalds and Burger King. Their entire paycheck would go to me and I'd be pulling around ~$25-$30/hr.

The problem is in order to justify this, I'd only want to pay $15-$20k max per negro. I wouldn't need a real sturdy or educated one either.
