yeah I don't care for it, but I did work for 15 years so at least I paid something into the system.

trying to get back into my old hobbies and maybe make some extra bucks from that, but it's hard. if it was just the depression on its own, or just the headaches, I'd probably still be able to work. I worked for many years like that. but then I fell and hit my head, and my brain was never really the same. just didn't have the focus to power through it anymore.

still hoping to get better and get back to work at some point though.

Indian and Paki developers are pretty much useless. They're code monkeys that give the facade of progress, when most of what they write has to be rewritten anyway.

Go into software. You won't regret it. As long as you actually have some motivation and don't expect your education to be done once you graduate and find a job.

I'm approaching 8 years experience, and my experience has been as such:

After graduating, it took about 5 months of applying at places to find an entry level position. This was in 2009 though, and the economy was still a bit shaky.

Now that I've got a few years experience, I get emails from roughly 5 headhunters a day wanting me to interview with them.

As for Indians, I've found that they're used as supplemental development rather than a main source of development, largely due to the fact that their code quality is lacking, and often has to be managed by another developer to ensure garbage code isn't being checked in.

Sorry, friend. My uncle's a step below the CEO of the small-ish company I'll be working it.
Either find someone you know and ask them for help getting an IT internship/low-level position at wherever they work (remember, there's IT almost everywhere), or apply for the shittiest IT-related job you can find (it counts as experience). My uncle actually worked as the IT person for a local school and worked his way up to doing IT for the entire county (though he still made not nearly what he's worth) before he joined the company he's at now.

Bigger companies can outsource effectively, small companies can't. Like you said, it requires a lot of bureaucracy and process to get cheap code labor. It does become economical to do it at some point but companies still have to grow to the point where it's worth it.

IT, Software Development, even starting your own business - none of these require degrees and you'll make a shit ton of money.

Lots of free courses out there, but if you want something legit and guranteed to get you looked at finish all the courses on Free Code Camp. We're interviewing a guy who did that and he seems pretty fucking solid. If you don't want that route there are others, but going in through the web dev field with no degree, working your way into backend and then becoming an engineer is the best process in my opinion.
>>
>>730115521
It's not hard work, just long hours. Union bullshit keeps you from working hard.

I'm not the first poster but I was a lineman for a phone company years back. The entire job is figuring out how to squeeze every dime out of the company while doing as little work as possible.

The union defined my job as one line taking 2 hours to do. This means no more than 4 a day. In reality, one line is maybe 15 minutes worth of work.

I spent most of my days finding a place to park my truck where a manager wouldn't notice and read a book.

They have GPS on trucks now so I don't know what the cat and mouse game looks like these days. However, the union can fuck you up far more than management so you better fucking play that game. Figuring out how to not work is actually pretty challenging under those circumstances.

The best idea is to think of a problem you have and solve it by writing some software. Whether that's a script or a webapp is up to you.

The key is it has to be important to you.

Do you play guitar? Write something that helps you make tabs.

Do you want to figure out some complicated financial question? Write a script that does that.

Have an idea for a game? Write something that does that.

Want to cheat in a game? Figure out how to do that with code.

Also google projecteuler. That's a great way to learn and you can put your solutions on github as well using whatever language you know.

The key here is you show potential employers that you know how to act on your own and figure shit out using "the google." This shows you're interested, motivated and won't be as much of a burden on their senior developers while you're learning your craft.

Keep in mind entry level developers usually cost more to bring up to speed than they produce for at least 6 months. Most employers know this so you need to prove you're worth that kind of investment.

That's one of the few jobs in the us that's actually expanding. Software engineering is one of those fields where a company can either pay a lot to get ace devs trained in the us or a whole bunch of shit devs imported from loo land. The companies that you should want to work for are the ones who don't deal with shitty poo in loos, because they pay a lot better and are the nice cushy silicon valley type.

It's what you do now but easier. You perform routine maintenance on equipment and replace shit that breaks. You rarely repair broken equipment parts because it's cheaper for them to buy a new part then have you replace it. so Every X weeks you replace something or lubricant this machine. Engineers give you a sheet that tells you what to do. Since you have electrical background you could work for a power company, be a electrician for a contractor company or HVAC.

>That's crazy you can't find a job as a engineer
not him , similar situation and thats what everyone tells me too, the wold I'm described and the world I actually see are not the same, makes me question whats real? whats the truth? Am I being fed false hope so I can continue to be a productive tax paying law abidinh citizen when I wouldn't have a reason to otherwise?is society just being held up by pretty lies?

a reply for your trips. Years of low quality outsourcing has caused the pendulum to swing back, most companies have found that outsourcing development actually costs more in the long run because poo in the loo pajeet's code boot camp didn't teach him how to write good code. Purely outsourced code almost always requires rewrites or just fails to deliver at all. There are still plenty of companies that try to outsource everything, but it's usually a symptom of trouble on the way and there are plenty of good alternatives to bounce into

what I do is fairly easy, in fact that's my main complaint about my work, its boring and monotonous, I feel like my mind and cognitive abilities are wasting away, just being squandered for no reason.
I would take a lower paying job if it were actual engineering work to be honest.

Some of what you said is true. You manufacture in the market you want to sell in. It's all about cost and yes you can fit thousands of iPhones and a crate and ship it across the world but the same can't be said for everything. Weight determines everything when factoring in costs. Smaller manufacturing may be leaving but not nearly as much as you think.

According to bloomberg it's starting again
Collateralized debt obligation (CDO) was a bunch of low rating loans bundled together and became AAA ratings. This is what allowed people with low paying jobs(sometimes no jobs) and bad credit to get houses. Little regulations happened after the crash so nothing is stopping it from happening again. Not to mention the banks got bailed out (by tax payers) and like 1 person went to jail.
