Holy shit I forgot about her. She still on YouTube?
Could some oldfags (2003-2009) tell me what the old /b/ was like?
I keep hearing it was better but I wanna see if anyone can describe why
Y'all are a bunch of Roody-poo's and Candy asses. Good thing we have the people's champions.

Imagine a world where memes were still an inside joke, and newscasters/disney channel didn't know what they were. Before corporations and politicians really figured out how to exploit the internet. We were all retarded, but it was a retarded rebellion.
>>729723875
less of an obligation for people to always post a pic.
really felt like you earned a good lol when you'd actually take the time to read a whole thread.
not to say there weren't purely pic threads, but they were a lot more contained.
also it was better because i was there, and you weren't and you can't prove that is wasn't.
how's that for some forbidden fruit shit, huh?
who remembers this shit

far less shitty, shitty porn threads taking up the front page.
YLYL threads were consistently funny as there was always something new.
mods occasionally interacted with users. m00t occasionally did cool things.
i remember there was one night where /b/ had a snow effect on it. big flakes fell from the top of the screen and would follow the cursor.
meanwhile, my one friend had penises falling on his screen instead of flakes.
there was also the PUDDI period.
come to think of it, them running scripts on the pages for the lulz was a semi-regular occurrence.

The granddady of all memes. Kind figured I'd grow up to have one in every room of the house.
>>729723519
I post less because of the 2 MB limit.
Gotta remember to choose file then type text. So many times I write up a decent post and then add a related image only to be denied by new moots penny pinching ways. I then REEEEE and close the tab.

>>729724418
That sounds magical
I feel like 4chan started to go downhill in 2010 and progressively got worse
>>729723875
This may sound cheesy, but for me it felt like our version of the 60's. It was our own small counter-culture movement. And it belonged to us.
And like the tied-died t-shirts of the 60's, elements were adopted by popular culture.
Now, I'm resentful of this... It doesn't feel like it belongs to 'us' anymore. Now it's a watered down fad that children are latching onto & leeching dry of any significance.
>>729723875
people didn't treat replies like facebook likes or upvotes. now with traffic higher than ever people come in and see all these shit bait threads getting replies and think that's how it's done.
now, with the file size cap, which I'm betting is in part to make the boards more mobile friendly, it's only going to get worse
>>729723875
Main thing I used to like that is largely gone are the occasional random thread.
There are still those threads today, but 99% 404 without a response because we need 25 dick threads,15 threads dedicated to ugly hags people stalk, and countless spammers that don't get banned or threads purged.

Not such much 4chan, just /b/
/b/ has always been the true heart of 4chan. It was once where societies rejects came to flurish. Each a faggot in their own right, but because everyone was a social reject, it resulted in some god tier threads always full on interesting shit.
These days /b/ has been rendered to a bunch of fap threads, and get threads. These have always been a part of /b/. But they were never EXCLUSIVELY the content until upwards of a few years ago.

I don't know if it was necessarily the 60s, because i feel like it wasn't really much rebellion. it was just continual expansion of boundaries with no clear goal. a lot of chaos.
Like 2002 was the Age of Ancients, 2003 brought about the Age of Fire, and now we're dealing with the Curse of the Undead and trying to figure out if a new Age of Fire would be good, or if we should just give in to an Age of Darkness

I remember when this wasn't the same as fedora-athiest-neckbeard-9fagledditfacebook keyboard jockey
This thread just made me realise that /b/ died right before I got here. Its odd that the quality still managed to drop since then. Hell its gotten worse in the last couple of months. But I'm staying. Its always amazes me that this progressively shittier shit hole has such a ridiculous hold on me.
>>729726166
yes, because i never decided to get rid of it. there're one or two photos i've taken that i actually like that are on it, and i don't feel the need to remove it all.
that being said, i don't feel comfortable posting stuff. the account has several photos that involve my face and probably other information that'd lead to other personal accounts of mine online.
i'll tell you one thing, though. one of them involved the bear cavalry.

>>729726263
that's true, yeah. i definitely feel separate and aloof. and not even like an "oldfag." i use quotes because i'm not entirely sure that word still holds the same value as it used to. unless oldfags become oldfags not because they've been on the site for a long time or because they lurk more than anything, but they're that way because they no longer feel able to properly interact with the rest of the site. i was never under the impression that that's how those users felt, though.

There was no golden age.
It was about exploiting the site to make girls cry just because they reminded maladjusts of girls they resented at school.
It was about perverts who would get their fucking head kicked in anywhere else posting CP (they have mostly gone now but still try and use this place occaisionally).
Animal abuse.
Mentally ill people posting revolting pictures.
Theis was a true cesspit and anyone celebrating that has wasted their life.
You couldn't get even with people in real so you did it to strangers via 4chan.
Oh, also it was full of horrible people who were just nasty because they enjoyed being mean without consequences.

Oh but it has changed. This is nothing like how it was.
The last true method of catching the fly in the spider's web was exif data. This place now is almost like as if the Disney Corporation has bought it in comparison to then.
I feel like you oldfags would appreciate this
>>729727221
Get on that shit, dude! And don't feel too bad. I only just watched Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time last month. That's the show people were always shocked to hear I hadn't seen yet based on other stuff I've watched and am into (one of those other things being Gurren Lagann. [and not to be a weeb, but I recommend watching the subbed version. the english voices sound hokey])
>>729727710
Not the feels thread but yeah defintitely right about the animal abusers.
Also, don't have a problem with outsiders bonding.
Trouble is, it was like the Wild West then, no one was truly safe. People are safer now. The really evil people have mostly gone.
>>729728120
wow that's a lot.
it also brings up another thing to me: i feel like there used to be a stronger connection to 2chan and the japanese origins of the board.
nowadays, it's mostly old nico nico douga stuff on /f/

>>729729769

Its kinda funny how newfags are like the new generation.
The oldfags (for this argument, people that have been here for a year or so) hate any new popular topic and call all of those posters newfags and how terrible /b/ is now and how they took their /b/ away. Just like old people hating today's kids with their rap music and hula hoops.
A year from then the cycle repeats with people defending last years topics as "the real /b/" and the new topics as cancerous newfaggotry.
roody poo candy ass
>>729729889
Yeah I've been here on and off since 2007 and /b/ really hasn't changed at all. People just always yearn for the past.
>>729729889
Yeah pretty much
>>729729889
sums it up nicely
>>729729889
I certainly have had bursts of browsing and not browsing this place over the years, and I can say that certainly we have that type of complaining. However, at the same time we see almost consistently calls for 4tan() to return to its roots.
I don't think that's the main issue though. As highlighted pretty well throughout this thread, newfags are people who want to be involved and integrated into a community. That is to say, they want to be accepted and are willing to sacrifice individuality for it. Oldfag on the other hand is associated with those who are unwilling to sacrifice their individuality for le up votes. Essentially, they embody the nature of what this place was founded on: Not giving a fuck if people judged, and acting without care if they did.
So, evidently those who complain in group about the cancer x topic has become, are not really the users we should be associating with oldfag. They are just a different group content with being perpetually stuck doing one thing long so as they are accepted, and when something new comes along, they react negativity because it threatens acceptance.
>>729730715
>So, evidently those who complain in group about the cancer x topic has become, are not really the users we should be associating with oldfag.
I agree.
I've always felt a true oldfag doesn't give a shit about being called an oldfag. 4chan's glory (in my opinion) has been its anonymous nature with no likes, votes, user names, avatars, etc.
By claiming to be an oldfag one is trying to seem popular and more important. The exact thing shitty sites like facebook, reddit, 9fag, and other forums have which 4chan tries to not have.
>>729731530
I think ive only ever referred to myself as an oldfag ironically. Really for me it's anytime a new meme starts getting any attention it's easy to spot who doesn't belong.
e.g. All these Andy Sixx threads. I'll bet everyone getting their balls all in an uproar and scream "CANCER! ON MY /b/!" are fairly new, say less than a year, and don't realize this shit happens every 6 months or so. The ones who've been around awhile just let it run its course.
>>729732221

It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main Era — the kind of peak that never comes again. /b/ in the middle 2000s was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run... but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and online in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant...
There was madness in any direction, at any hour. You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were retarded, but we were right...
And that, I think, was the handle — that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of samefags and normies. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply PREVAIL. There was no point in fighting — on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave...
So now, less than five years later, you can go and start a nistalgia thread and read about the good old days, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high water mark — that place where the wave finally broke, and rolled back.
