I'll help you out, actually. I have experience in this field, but I don't know if it'll work for you IMO.

I enlisted in March of last year (2016), and left for basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC in May of that year. I could handle the yelling from basic once I left Reception, but the lifestyle wasn't something I wanted. I was active duty, so I wouldn't have the luxury of seeing home but for a few weeks at a time every other year or so. I just didn't see myself doing it. So, I faked a knee-injury, and filled out a paper at the TMC (Whatever it's called ,the Medical building on Jackson off of Strom Thurmond). Talked with people, and just stuck to my guns. My knee hurts, I want out. They eventually began to chapter me out. I was there for 7 weeks total, from the time I left from my home-city MEPs to the time I walked in my front door.

Turns out, I actually had a torn MCL/ACL and a dislocated knee that required surgery. I think I injured it walking weird with a fake limp all the time. So, I just lied and said I really did injure myself when I initially 'faked' it. So, now I'm home and better off.

My suggestion with you? Talk to your Chaplin and ask about it from them. Or you can go the medical route, get injured and see what forms they give you. On the form I got, I could check a box that says," I want out of the Army." I checked that fucker and was gone before my class graduated. I was home a week and a half before my class walked to graduate.

Actually, I'm going to college on a GI Bill. One of my parents was a Marine in the Gulf War. 100% free but books, and I'm not a pussy. I just didn't want to live my life the same way.

Also didn't get the MoS I wanted. I wanted to be a 19D, Cav Scout, or one of the Army Divers because I had a scuba certificate and everything. I just didn't really feel the MoS I had, I didn't want to reclass and I didn't want to live a boring life for 6 years, then serve 2 in Reserves for my full 8. Not to mention I had to get surgery anyway, and I had the Option 40 in my contract. I couldn't have, medially, survived Ft. Benning. One wrong fall and I could've been permanently disabled. 2nd major injury to the same knee, first was in Football.

Just because I didn't feel like living a subpar life to what I'm used to doesn't make me a pussy. Just wasn't for me.

I make, almost 1 year after leaving for Basic about $65,000. Dude, I won't tell you "serve your time." I really won't. I will tell you that I did and am glad that I didn't get a GD, because I now have a law license, and I might have had trouble getting a law license if I had fucked up.

My good older buddy- who I followed into the Guard, because we were both poor and wanted to go to college- ended up flaming out and being a douche and got kicked out. He never did shit with his life after that, not because the Guard ruined it but because that was the first step to him shluffing off at his life.

So, if you're going to find a way to quit, you can do it, but I would put it this way. Figure out something good you want to DO with your life, rather than merely survive it, and go about that. That would really be quitting with a purpose. And I don't think "quitting" something is bad, if you have a good reason to do so.

Honorable would really require you to be injured, or to get out for hardship reasons like a death in family and need to support siblings.

General is easier to get, it's usually related to misconduct but the officers don't want the hassle of bad-conduct or worse discharges, plus they have to report that shit up the chain and it embarrasses them to have bad discharges in their unit. So if you show up with pot in your system, GD for you. If you get fat, GD is a possibility but so is medical, which is Honorable.

Anyone here ever been to medhold for more than a week in getfit? That shit has some sort of mental drain effect on you. There's just something about staring at a wall for 16 hours a day 7 days a week X however long your recovery time takes (and the waiting time to actually be seen by a physician) that gets to you after a while.

Not really bitching or anything but I tore my rotor cuff during my final PT test in basic and they sent me to medhold. Went from incredibly motivated to wanting to do literally anything else in a matter of days. Couldn't use my left arm for 3 weeks, it was painful to put on my shirt.

If they say they don't have the school available, then walk out without signing up, they'll call you the next day and say they have it. (But that wouldn't happen, slots are available all the time.)

Why? One, it's a little bit of extra money each month. Two, it's an easy school that gives you an absurd "bragging right" in the Army, in that people who are Airborne qualified talk shit constantly about people who are not, saying they "ain't shit." I don't think it should be that way, but it is. I think it's inferiority truthfully- people who couldn't hack Ranger School, like to talk like they are Rangers, and their stupid little parachute patch gives them that "bragging right."

But I digress. It will be good for your career to be Airborne qualified, whether you are in for 4 years or 24. If you don't do it, sooner or later you'll be sorry.

Lower than for regular Army who try out. If only because, signing up for 18X requires you to meet certain criteria, and your initial training includes shit to prepare you for selection.
