Generally speaking, it has more been about things they did that pissed me off, or something stupid or funny, and I'm just venting or making conversation. That seems pretty normal. Lots of people do that shit.

I try to make a point of not just insulting them, though. As long as I still consider them friends, the only things I shit-talk are actions, not being a dick about who they are. That's not to say I've never insulted a friend, but I do that to their face before I do it behind their backs. And it's usually because I'm either done with them or trying to make a reality check for them.

That's not to say I've never made mistakes. Certainly social faux pas have occurred. Shit just happens sometimes and you're not always the good guy in the situation. So all you can do is be a man and apologize.
