When people talk about missing the old /b/, what the fuck are

The stories and information posted here are artistic works of fiction and falsehood.
Only a fool would take anything posted here as fact.

When people talk about missing the old /b/, what the fuck are they talking about? I get that /b/ is absolute shit now with the same 30 threads being reposted to death, but what was it like before?

Sorry, I came a bit late to the show. 28 now but probably would have fit in here pretty well at 14.

Pic unrelated.
>>
>>729368844
Slightly different set of the same 40 threads. Less normalfag porn, less porn in general, really, and the porn was a bit more out there, more hentai threads, gore threads. Also there was a bunch of /s4s/ style bullshit.
>>
>>729369211
>more hentai
>more gore
this is why you think /b/ was better before? kek
>>
>>729368844
Less porn that belongs on other boards, more flavor of the month type shit happening.

The biggest difference it was an anonymous imageboard that nerds found once, generally from other forums and shit they went on. Now its the notorious hacker hangout 4chan and everything that entails.
>>
>>729369378
I started in 2010. That's what it was like back then. 3 or 4 hentai threads in a day, one or two gore threads.
>>
>>729368844
it was only "better" back then because it felt original and unique. Now it's just a place where shitty edgy teenagers like you congregate.
>>
>>729369634
you missed my point
>>
Things have changed, but mostly the same adolescent fuckery and infighting it has always been. People who come here for community need to be reminded that it is an open anonymous board. Come here to see the gutter of human existence! This is where the shit piles up. We all have our day to day lives but we come here to break free. This is where the mid, emotions, and desires get to run free.

Let it be what it will be, just be a part of it in your own way.

In the end it was a group of bitter and hateful smart or funny people (sometimes both) that were complete dicks, but still had a sense of right and wrong and would be generally cool with each other because we were all fairly like minded, It was fun and great, not it just pisses me off and I continue to come here out of habit.

Whoever claims to know exactly who compromised /b/ back in 'the good old days' is obviously full of shit. An image board is novel when it first appears, and it remains novel until more and more people pile in to be part of the 'cool thing' -- newfags. Eventually the people who were interested in things like raids, gamergate, and forcing memes on other boards all left, not wanting to share space with newfags who were only here to shitpost. Shortly after moot sold the site to the japanese, who now use it to collect date to sell to 3rd parties, an insane amount of social engineering began to occur on 4chan as a result of /pol/ getting big again. Cuck threads are spammed now multiple times on a daily basis using a botnet that operates on a timetable, looking at it you can establish when the next thread will be posted and what it'll say. Things aren't much better on /pol/. These are the things that caused the cancer to become terminal.
>>
>>729369634

>implying the old /b/ was still alive in 2010

the old /b/ was more creative, you saw more oc and less meanlingsless shit like kys. when somebody told you to kys he would not just type three letters, but something like "seek a fire to die in"

no big differences though, but in sum it was was less of a shithole because it wasn't 80% undergage edgy fags.
>>
>>729370306
I truly hope everyone that visits /pol/ more than once a month die horrible deaths. I'd post that image of you guys getting BTFO but I'd have to google for it.

Also, running jokes. There was nothing funnier than inside long running jokes. EFG, That damn cat ect....That shit just cant work now because there are too many people and most of which are too stupid to get something so they try to fuck it up for everyone.

In the end back in the day were all concidered the gutter of society, but we had a group there. A lot of the old chan was those really smart and crazy guys who would ruin your life for kicking a cat. Hackers and Aspis that were on Hannibal Lecture level smart with a heavy splash of dark humor.
>>
>>729370502

That's another thing that killed /b/. Newfags think that there's some kind of board politic or seekrit klub.

>>

Don't you think trying to refer to the 'collective group' on an anonymous image board is a bit like drawing ripples in the water and pretending they mean things?

So not only can you create a group identity out of thin air, you can then assign people to this identity in your own mind based on whatever traits you see fit, whether actually present in the person or not.
Except that no one has an identity here, you can't even be sure that I'm the same person who was talking to you previously, you can only assume. It's not hard to see how the whole thing ends up being incongruous to reality. Essentially, you're drawing patterns wherever you want to see them, clapping your hands together and saying, "I found the guys from /pol/!" To everyone else, you just look retarded.
>>
>>729371494
the tubmlrs filled with funny posts from 4chan are evidence of this, they are all ancient. Very little OC exists today.
>>
First there was /b/.

Then it basically turned into /soc/.

Then /soc/ was made into an actual board.

/b/ never quite returned. It's a porn board now.
>>
>>729368844
It was more fun because it was less obvious, if that makes any sense. it was an underground community that was basically cryptic to anyone not in the know. Also a lot less porn, posters were generally smarter, super left leaning politically, and it felt more punk. Now it's a meme factory used by Pepsi cola or whatever

reddit giving us more fame definitely was the nail in the coffin, though I couldnt care less about reddit today. Its just the new generation of retards who arent funny and steal content all the time.
>>
It was a different atmosphere. There were good threads and almost always something of interest to dive into. The few porn threads that were there were good, and if someone posted a teen there were no faggots screaming MODS, even if it was pointed out to be a legal model. There were less faggots in general actually.

Everything is so moral, mainstream, and repetitive now. It is all garbage. I just visit occasionally in the hopes to catch a glimmer of the old atmosphere or something entertaining.
>>
>>729368844
I can speak for all and clearly not for these pretentious tryhard faggots. But when authentic oldfags say they are longing for the old /b/ it basically means they are longing for the randomness in every thread made by the OPs.
This board was so random back then that almost everything on the first page is fresh content by OPs posting about stuff related to their lives etc. This board was unpredictable back then, to simply put.

>>
What really is different from the ancient days is the amount of people. In recent years the creative people truly have left and /b/ is now mostly just shitposting. However back in the early days threads would last days, so there was a much easier time frame to create content.

Not to mention there were actual mods that participated and turned the entirely of /b/ into a late 90s Angelfire page.

The original Something Awful forum members who were stifled by the rules came here as a mecca of no fucks given. Nothing was banned except CP and you could tell - even though back then CP was a multiple-times per day occurrence who's threads could last for hours and hundreds of posts.

It was over the instant that moot decided to actively censor 4chan. Things were going downhill for a long time, but during gamergate, moot told janitors to wipe all traces of it since it led in part back to him. As soon as people started noticing that 4chan was actively censoring itself for the first time, a large majority of the oldfags took off. It was less than a year later that moot realized that what remained was just a melting pot of shit and he sold it as soon as he was able for as much as he could get. Moot tried, before he left, to create another /b/ -- he tried to make a new 'random' board that not many people knew about and hoped it would produce fresh, interesting content like old /b/ did. /s4s/ was okay at first, but eventually it became a containment board for shitposters and autists from the other major boards, /b/, /a/ and the like. Now it's almost exclusively autism.

/b/, however... /b/ has become something much worse. Half of anything you see on the front page at any given time is posted by a botnet, and the rest of what is posted by actual people is the bottom-of-the-barrel crap that the newfags feed on.

Gamergate was important. Addressing collusion between video game publishers and journalists is still a pretty big thing for /v/, too, which was what gamergate was all about. Because of gamergate, pretty much every major games journalism website updated their code of conduct to prevent their journalists from writing good reviews on the basis of receiving an excellent blowjob from the game's developer. The dark part was when it came out that moot was friends with a lot of those people and they began deleting swathes of the front page over and over to keep people from figuring out what was going on.
>>
>>729372341

The wiki article has been rewritten by SJWs. Essentially it came out that Zoe Quinn, creator of the 'game' Depression Quest, had fucked no less than five different guys in the games journalism industry in order to get them to give her 'game' a positive review. The thing that tipped people off was both the fact that Depression Quest got amazing reviews despite not even really being a game, and Zoe's boyfriend got pissed at being cucked five times simultaneously and wrote a blog post with a shitload of verified info. What followed was a milk-loaded lulzcow as people crawled the web confirming her relations with these five guys. A month or two later all of the gaming journalism websites published the same article simultaneously, and you can still find many copies of it. The article was 'gamers are dead' -- a hitpiece on their own audience meant to convince anyone that gaming wasn't worth investing in. A little more digging revealed the Gamejournopros list, a mailing list that games journalism websites were using to collude with each other and make sure they all fell in lockstep with the same narrative. When that list was made public, the directors of RockPaperShotgun, Kotaku, PCGamer and others were needled for conducting yellow journalism and for colluding with each other, and all of them updated their privacy policies. It was shortly after that the backlash from their published articles were felt as they realized that they had attacked their own audience, their one source of money. A lot of the opposite side trumped it up hard and tried to make it about misogyny or keeping women out of gaming, but it was really all about keeping game journalists from colluding with each other and with game developers to sell you a pile of crap that they dress up as a golden goose egg.

Stinging truth, also i doubt most folks here even know of it.

Throw in that once upon a time /b/ was the melting pot for other boards, the place boards came to meet and discuss tangentally related topics. because /a/ can't talk about comics, but /co/ has a new anime inspired comic, where did they go? here. /b/ was the place cross board users met and everyone was cross board, now we not only have politics but the idea that /b/ is a place that should be visited exclusively.

also the days of badmouthing other boards as a self depreciating joke died too. ON an anonymous image-board allegiance isn't meant to exist
