Let's see...
Go on to a good university to set yourself up to have a great, fulfilling life...
Or join the military, be treated like an idiot by people with lesse IQs than you, and be thrown into the ongoing Vietnam-in-Bumfuckistan to die for poppy fields and one backwards pedo sect of Islam being targeted by the other backwards pedo sect of Islam.
Hmmm, tough choice.
Don't do it op, you will regret it.

if you pick a bullshit job like combat arms you will never get a job doing what you did in the military outside of the military. even a lot of combat arms guys end up getting out of their jobs and reclassing to a different MOS.
just depends on what you wanna do after. afghanistan is kind of a bullshit war but it's chill. also you'll probably become an alcoholic if you aren't already

i was thinking naval maritime academy, i've always been fascinated with the navy

Join the Air Force or Navy. Those two branches require smart ppl
>>729345112
thought about applying to West Point, Annapolis or Colorado Springs? Get to be an officer, get a free education. not bad.
>>729345112
What would you study if you go to university?
What job would you try to do if you join military, and what branch?

fuck westpointers. they're some of the worst officers i've ever met. they come out of there with a really nice brand-name degree but they don't know how to lead a formation. They usually pander out after they hit O-3 or O-4 but by then most get out.
>>729345754
Yes but in AFISRA or CID you get those wall hugging introverts with a huge dick up their asses. If you enjoy /b/ you're probably not going to enjoy the Navy or Air Force and be overt about how fucked up you are. You probably won't get to kill people either and that can be an experience.
>>729345795
At least in the Army, you don't get to choose what branch you have after you commission. You could end up as a fucking Food Service Officer.
>>729345112
do it
doing service or dying for israel and gods chosen people is a great honor. plus free college and monetary pension.
>>729345814
If i were to go to university, i'd major in poli sci and study to get a law degree, and aim to become a lawyer and eventually a judge. If i went military, definitely navy

So if you went into navy what kind of job would you go for? you do get some say if your ASVAB score is high enough. If you know that you want to be a lawyer/judge, im not sure what kind of enlisted Navy jobs there are. In Army the only enlisted jobs in legal are probably administrative assistant of some sort.
Another option would be to join the National Guard/Air Guard or Reserves. You would go to basic training and technical training (for whatever job you get), then you show up for 1 weekend per month, and 2 weeks each year (usually in the summer) for training. While you are in the Guard/Reserves you can be eligible for Tuition Assitance which can be used to pay for tuition at your school (with some limitations). After a certain amount of your service commitment is fulfilled, you should also be eligible for the GI Bill, which would pay for your tuition, and get you BAH (housing allowance) while you are enrolled in school (usually covers 4 years for a bachelors degree).
Just know that no matter which option you choose, any enlistment contract you sign will be for 8 YEARS. if you go straight into active duty, your initial enlistment will be 3-6 years usually. if you do not reenlist after your initial enlistment, you will serve the remainder of that 8 years in the Guard/Reserves/Inactive Reserves, with the Inactive Reserves being pretty much out of the military, but they can still call you back any time.

ty for the info
What would you say are the two most intense jobs that one could have in the navy?
>>729346565
ultimately i'd like to become an admiral. but that's obviously after decades in the field, right?
>>729346952
Intense jobs in the Navy?
I mean, being a Seal would probably be intense. I'm an Army cat myself so outside the equivalents of my job, I dont know what all jobs there are in the navy. If you are looking to go shoot up guy in the middle east, you probably dont want to be Navy or Air Force. if you want to learn an actual skill that is applicable to the civilian world, you do not want to be one of those guys whose only job is to shoot people in the middle east. The Air Force and Navy generally treat their people better, which is one of the reasons why they are generally recommended.

not every officer gets to wear stars. you gotta meet the right people, make the right decisions, etc.
>>729347433
Honestly if i could have one job on this planet, I'd want to become a pilot in the air force (heli or jet). Sadly, my eyesight is ass. 20/20 in my right eye, but my left eye is terrible.
>>729347433
what branch did you serve in?
>>729347433
This. As a former shoots people in the middle east guy. None of the shit I learned is applicable in regular life.
>>729347672
only issue with that is that all pilots outside of Army are commissioned officers, so you would need to at least have a bachelors.
For the Army, you can be a helicopter pilot as a commissioned or warrant officer. warrant is better because they get to fly more compared to commissioned officers from what i've been told. You can go in as enlisted and then take the test (SWIFT or something?) which is the test for aviation. I believe i've also heard you can go straight into being a warrant as a helicopter pilot if your scores are good.

Any stories? I'm all ears
If you do join the military, do not allow yourself to adapt to what you're by any type of mentor. If you're going for full career, you have two options:
1. Senior NCO gung-ho Woods from Black Ops: you literally just go and yell at people, take orders from officers and hand those orders to your inferiors. Not much to it, you're an enforcer of your C/O.
2. Officer: Read up on military philosophy, not only on how to command your troops but also on war. Sun Tzu, Erwin Rommel, etc. What these people learn about from war can apply to individual humans aswell.
Honestly, choose something in the Military you think you'll do the rest of your life in or else you'll end up like the rest of the retards that go in and leave, either working at a PMC or a walmart tier job ( 90% of the time), not to mention your wife/gf will also go and fuck other men (unless you have a kid, but even then that's also ehhh).
>>729348871
oh yeah, forgot to mention, work on your people skills if you wanna be muh fleet admiral
>>729348871
Well said, I agree with almost everything. I've already read and re-read several works by previous war generals (mainly art of war by sun tzu).
Overall i want to enjoy my life, I dont want to have a fucking desk job for the rest of my life
