When you say you make your own alcohol, aren't you really employing the help of yeast colonies to ferment sugars to produce alcohol for you, in effect eliminating the middleman that is brewing and distilling companies that would otherwise charge you currency to purchase the alcohol that they have produced using their own private yeast stocks?

I only care for two tarantulas. A P. regalis, and an E. cyanognathus.

What yeast do you guys use? I've tried a couple of times with Lalvin D-47. Which seems to be well regarded for it, but I find I get way too much of the campaign taste with it. Or maybe I'm not using enough honey, I was sticking with the slightly lower end of what is supposed to be considered "normal" though

Hey OP, what do you use to stop fermentation so you don't end up with stuff that tastes like diesel fuel?

I've made stuff on my own a few times and maybe about a month in it tastes great but if I let it continue to ferment it tastes awful.

You can put it in a fridge which will stop the fermentation or pasteurize it.

With beer/wine you usually let it ferment all the way to completion and pull material off the yeast/protein that crashes out and then bottle.

At a certain point no matter what the yeast will seize up between 11 and 18% abv.

It's obvious to me by your explanation you aren't taking gravity readings which you need to start doing as well

No what you do is rack the mead, you literally transfer it over to another container but don't take the bottom part. Fermentation should be done after about 1 month or so usually but if you want to speed it up you have to rack it. You do this a few times over the course of a week to get all the dead and active yeast out of your batch. Otherwise you get off flavors which sucks because no one likes off flavors.
>>
>>729204182

Right now, they are both approximately 6.5cm in diagonal legspan (front left to back right leg)
The P. regalis may grow to be 19-23cm, and the E. cyanognathus may grow to be up to 17cm I believe.
The P. regalis was approx. 23.93
The E. cyanognathus was approx. 43.92 (but that was for a confirmed female)
I feed them primarily crickets, but I'm sure they would accept any small vertebrates or invertebrates.

>>
>>729203888
You don't want to boil anything since it would kill the yeast or ruin the flavor. Mostly it's just letting it ferment for 2 months or so, racking it a few times, then bottling it. There is more to it but that's the jist of it.
>>
>>729203093
I garden too. Have you planted your tomatoes yet? I haven't cuz I live in Indiana and it's very possible that we get another snow before it's all said and done. Thank you guys for the input. I think I'll try racking it for sure. I was considering doing a spring cider with a mix of about 50% apple juice along with a mishmosh of of mashed berries. My first successful (temporarily successful because I let it sit) batch was a hard cider with a lot of dried fruits. Tasted like sweet apple juice with just a bit of tart. Not sure how suing fruit will affect things.
I guess I never understood the gravity reading part. I started doing it before I could legally buy alcohol. So I would just add as much sugar as possible. The goal then was to just get FKed up. Now I just want to enjoy something refreshing.
>>
>>729204732
you can legally own a still but you have to register it and get licensed to use it otherwise it's just for decoration. and cops can arrest you for using it without a license and they watch for stuff like buying grains in bulk and such.

Not OP but neat. When I was a boozehound (I had a problem, kek), I would make my own shitty wine out of yeast and sugar and different juice concentrates. Shit was so easy and would get me sloshed. Took a few times before I felt like it wasn't going to kill me but it really is easy. I don't play any instruments, but who doesn't wish they could? You any good on the git-fiddle?

>>729204651
That is crazy, anon. My biggest pothos is only maybe two-three feet kek. But I've only owned it for a few months. I had to dump everything I owned a few years ago, and I'm starting new.

Pretty much, it's a terrarium, basically a micro climate, that houses fauna, rather than only flora. My vivariums are always bioactive, which means that the plants will always have food due to the shit from the animals and the shit from the dead plants. The plants get to eat the shit that my springtails and isopods don't eat.

Basically, you get a glass enclosure, and you put some sort of substrate, I use coconut fiber if I'm housing tarantulas because there is no chemical fertilizer. If you need good drainage, you can first put in small clay balls, or pebbles, then put the substrate on top. Then just add appropriate plants, let it acclimate, and add the animals.

I fucking love guns. I only personally own an AKM in 7.62x39 and a Glock 19 Gen. 4. But I have significant training in "foreign" and "domestic" weapons systems.
That's a nice fucking rifle, bro. Glad to see you don't live in Cali.

OP here, wine is fermented berries or grapes. Mead is fermented honey but most people know it as honey wine since the taste is similar. Cool.

Ginger ale

2.2 lbs ginger

2.5 lbs raw cane extract organic
1.2 lbs granulated sugar cheapo
8oz sparkling amber briess malt extract
1lb golden brown sugar
Some lemons n limes

1 tsp cream of tartar

Boil like a beer batch add ginger let rock for like 30 min. I even hopped mine a little because wtf not. So 8 oz simcoe for aroma

My first go at ginger ale. I've had adverse response to fermenting pure sugar wash before so i was sketched but i think the ginger oils are keeping it nice abd controlled. Looks good. Used e111 champagne yeast, will come out totally dry because I don't want to back sweeten with lactose or splenda

I have built and run a still as well hence the sugar wash. Please ask all questions. I may go out.

My brewer history
Several Belgians tripels and dubbels mostly
Several ipas
This is my 4th English strong ale
I've also done pretty good whiskey, I filled jars with charcoal stolen from barrels at a distillery near me.
Plenty of shine, once I made shine from the cheapest fruit at the Mexican market. The fermentation was noxious but after distillation it was good.
Also
Metheglin w wormwood
Melomel w black currants
And a lot of cider/perry/fruit wine experiments., plus kombucha of course because I dig crystals

Some don't like it and that's fine, and you're right it does take a while to ferment. I usually don't drink any of mine until it's 2 months fermented and at least 1 month aged. But I also make them in batches of 5-6 gallons so they last me a while. I've always loved mead and i like making it since it's cheaper than buying it.

Pic is of a smaller batch I made, never really a good idea to leave much space for the mead to be exposed to air. It gives it off flavors.

Awesome I might try this. This is the recipe for a metheglin (spiced mead)

Autumn Queen
5 Gallon batch

2 ½ tsp. clove
2 ½ tsp. nutmeg
2 ½ tsp. all spice
5 tsp enzyme
Yeast
Yeast nutrient
½ lb of brown sugar
7 lemons
1 vanilla bean
Fill to top of container with water. (should be a 5-6 gallon container or carboy)

I figured, but it's not very complicated, so I wasn't bothered. It will be simple for you, especially if you like growing plants.
I like doing it because it's nice to look at, and it gives me something to do every day, something to check on, and all that.
And yeah, I've heard that aquariums, salt water, especially are very expensive to keep, I've never had one and that is what mainly deterred me.
Looking forward to seeing the monster.

Really depends on the style.

Mead and wine can taste very similar. I have done Mead that people swore were rose'

Typically for laymen mead is sweeter and more floral, wine is more tart and dryer.

That said it all depends on the method, the fermentable sugar used is what designated style of booze but there are so many ways to ferment each type of sugar wirh different results.

Don't get caught up on style or genre.

Start buying nice booze if you want to make it imo

Outside of that, my hobbies are shyte. Gave up drinking after a couple of run ins with the law, and needing to blow over 10k on my mouth after eating some pavement. Now I just bike, work, play vidya, and exercise. And the occasional reading. Still feel like I need a better distraction. Most of my mates work on their vehicles, but I buy brand new shit that doesn't require work. Just broke up and moved out of a 4yo relationship too, so it feels strange to need to entertain myself again. Especially since my old friend circle was very intertwined and fell apart.

I look at old aerial photography of my area from like 80 years ago and go out into the woods, marshes, etc. with some friends to try and find the remains. We mostly find farm remains and old railroad tracks, but our best finds have been an old POW camp, an orphanage, and an old intact caboose like 1/2 mile deep into a forest.

We used to urban explore in Chicago but it got too dangerous after some close calls. I almost prefer looking outside the city since the sites we've found seem virtually unknown whereas everything in the city always has like 100 graffiti tags on them.

Got baby's first DSLR and 2 lenses for $460. I go places in my car and take pictures of anything I find interesting. Flashy/rare cars, buildings with architecture I like. Sunrise/sunsets. Landscapes. I'd like to get pictures of people smiling and laughing more too. Not creeping or perving on women like a stalker. Just able to capture the brief moment of happiness a group of people are enjoying together. But that'd be very creepy and weird to do that, so I refrain from it.
>building computers
I do builds for people on the side. Make like $100 for a build and honestly only do them because I enjoy the action and feeling of everything coming together. I also like to take old builds off of these customers who'd throw them away anyway, scavenge what I can, build a single functioning computer out of all of them, and try to give it to someone with little to no money. Did tht to quite a few people in college.

Overall I'm an introvert faggot who is uninteresting and keeps to himself. I'm not weirdly quiet, but don't go out of my way to converse with others. This doesn't exactly make me a hit with he ladies at all, and the women who do notice me are usually controlling and manipulative. They see my quietness as being timid and like try to mold me. Hard to describe. Usually revolves around them trying to get me OUT of my hobbies because they don't like/share them.

Thinking of taking up a cooking/baking class next. If I'm going to be single forever, I might as well eat like a king.

Not going to greentext but combination of bad factors. More homeless drugees, more motion detectors with silent alarms (we only had cops arrive once, just ran away since they had cars), and fewer buildings to explore in white neighborhoods.

The big incident that caused us to stop was we were in an old factory basement and found a bunch of dead animals and bloody rope around an old wooden chair. We got the hell out of there pretty quickly.

The big problem is not so much police but bums. We've run into bums hiding in the woods and they are pretty chill and either offer us to drink or smoke with them. In the city they just act deranged and will throw shit at you or try and stab you.

I love motocross. This CR500AF was a big project from last year, still haven't sold it like I said I would. Rebuilt everything, including CNC porting the cylinder head; Pro Circuit pipe, silencer, triple clamps and forks; brand new plastics and seat; and some blasting/scrubbing to get the stained dirt off the metal parts. Bike feels and sounds like it's brand new and ready to race, which it is actually.

I prefer using state geologic databases since they have really high resolution pics but this site has quite a few in a nice layout. Problem is the watermarks and resolution. I usually locate something of interest using this site then search around for the high resolution source so I can better identify the site.

mead only has carbonation if you add some sugar or honey to the bottle and cap it to start a second fermentation if you dont do that it has little to no carbonation

google 1 gallon mead kit i did price was 50 bucks had every thing you need but the honey
>>
>>729211560
1 gallon glass carboy = $20
racking pump = $15
Honey = ??$ depends on how much you want to make/use

Yeast = $1-$2
yeast nutrient = $2

The honey is the most expensive part and maybe the flavoring if you want to be special.

>>
>>729211824
yeah that effects the flavor why i prefer 1 gallon instead of making a 5 gallon can buy lots of different kinds of honey and try different recipes

also the yeast you use effects the flavor also

The art of brewing is establishing intention and successfully achieving your goal.

The real question is what is your preference? What beverage is your ideal end goal?

It's really odd I'll tell you. Maybe I'm unintentionally giving off some sort of "lost puppy" vibe that these women flock to thinking they can easily wrap me around their finger? I'm quiet, but I'm not a push over pussy whipped loser who will "yes ma'am" everything she says.

It's why I just stopped altogether with women. I'm young, maybe this is a sign to go gay. It's current day current year. Fuck it right?

Not really, but very frustrating nonetheless.

You know anon if you just want the alcoholic content and don't care about the taste you can just make Kilju or Sweet tea alcohol. It's literally just fermented sugar water with something acidic to help the ethanol form. The Finnish make this drink and you can flavor it. It's the cheapest alcohol you can make.
