When I was a kid I got bit in the face by my family dog. He was a Dalmatian and had bitten many people before me. After he bit me, my dad had to get him put to sleep, but to be honest he should've been put down way sooner. He was a crazy fuck because he'd spent most of his life chained up. I feel bad, but it was my dad's fault for raising him that way.

Since then (16 years later) I've always been extremely careful around dogs. While you can't even tell I was bitten today, back then I thought I was a goner. I am especially weary of Rotts and Pits, as well as other big dogs not because I feel they're all bad, they just have a tendency to be protective and can inflict the most damage.

That being said, they can be awesome and loving dogs. My cousin has a Rottweiler and pit bull. The first time I met them they were amazing dogs, very loving and sweet. Meanwhile my aunts husky was a complete time bomb and nearly bit my hand when I tried to pet her.

Tl;dr we are more afraid of bigger dogs because they have the capability to fuck us up. All dog breeds can be mean. All dog breeds can be sweet. Depends on a lot.

You might not have noticed but a large portion of people who own pitbulls are utter scumbags. These fighting dogs are the number 1 choice for dipshits who actually do train their dogs to kill with no plan on when to use them.

So I've studied Pitbulls for a long time, as I've owned one, and the hate for them is tremendous. However, a few facts for you guys:

1. Pitbulls have often been called the "nanny dog," because they're so good with kids.
2. The United Kennel Club doesn't recommend them as guard dogs because they're too FRIENDLY with strangers.
3. Pitbulls are the most tortured, abused and abandoned breed in the US, and nearly all their attacks documented were tied to this treatment, or males that were not neutered.
4. Pitbulls were the 2nd most tolerant dog breed tested by the ATTS, right behind Golden Retrievers.
5. Pitbulls had been bred to fight other dogs, not humans. If anything, the only training you need to put a serious amount of effort into is their tolerance around other dogs, which they generally are good with unless provoked. Any dog would respond to that.
6. They don't have locking jaws. Pure myth.

All that I knew, and it only took a few minutes to do a few Google searches.

I'm 35yrs old. In those 35 years, I've owned 12 pit bulls. 7 from breeders, 3 adopted from shelters, and 2 fighting rescues. The funny part is, I have NEVER owned an aggressive pit bull.
