someone PLEASE explain this to me

I've been on flights where they had to pull people due to overbooking, it's not uncommon

Why the fuck are liberals getting pissed at the airliner? Was it not the security of O'Hare airport that should be scrutinized? I'm sure no one told them to make the fucking guy bleed from the mouth

And no one's talking about it...shills man...always offended by something without reason

also, if you want to piss off the liberals you will probably get more traction by atacking his character with the information that has come to light about his drug/sex crimes, considering it's not the central issue that people are angry about it tends to instantly piss them off even more because it diminishes their complaint and attempts to sideline it.

Whether it's overbooked or not is no excuse. The airline shouldn't punish it's customers so it can make a few extra bucks.
At the very least the $800 they offered should if been a starting point. Do it like a bidding system keep upping the price until you get takers. Even if cost them 10k that's nothing to UA. Especially considering it's their own greed/stupidity that caused the problem.
>>
>>728846332
I think people are more upset about how he was violently thrown off the plane, rather than the overlooking itself.
>>
>>728846332
See, you are exactly what's wrong with what's going on. I remember when the consumer was king. None of this bullshit socialist crap where the workers can hitch a ride for free off the backs of hard working ticket paying clients.

>>

Exactly. I can't believe people support this whether it's in their rules or not.
In saying that I saw a post on twitter with copies of a UA ticket and the paperwork you get with it. There is no mention of being removed from the plane if overbooked.
>>
>>728848154
People are upset about a whole spectrum of things in relation to this incident, and it's all bullshit. The only reason anybody gives a shit about this is because it's airline-related inconvenience, and they can relate to the feeling. When you have to pay extra for your bags, that's exactly the same as being dragged, bloody, off an airplane. The people who are bitching all over the internet only know that level of suffering in their lives. None of them can imagine what it's like to be starving to death or be a sex slave, so none of the actual news stories in the world are getting through.
>>
>>728848316

The flight was "overbooked" because united prioritized 4 employees over their actual customers, allegedly on short notice.
The security/TSA/police/whatever obviously were the ones who actually did the physical harm to him but chances are they got pressured into removing him quickly.
When all is said and done, united are the ones who are responsible for the situation in the first place and they handled it in an astonishingly retarded manner after the fact.
>>
>>728846332
>I've been on flights where they had to pull people due to overbooking, it's not uncommon

1. First of all, it's airline spin to call this an overbooking. The statutory provision granting them the ability to deny boarding is about "OVERSALES", specifically defines as booking more reserved confirmed seats than there are available. This is not what happened. They did not overbook the flight; they had a fully booked flight, and not only did everyone already have a reserved confirmed seat, they were all sitting in them. The law allowing them to deny boarding in the event of an oversale does not apply.

2. Even if it did apply, the law is unambiguously clear that airlines have to give preference to everyone with reserved confirmed seats when choosing to involuntarily deny boarding. They have to always choose the solution that will affect the least amount of reserved confirmed seats. This rule is straightforward, and United makes very clear in their own contract of carriage that employees of their own or of other carriers may be denied boarding without compensation because they do not have reserved confirmed seats. On its face, it's clear that what they did was illegal - they gave preference to their employees over people who had reserved confirmed seats, in violation of 14 CFR 250.2a.

3. Furthermore, even if you try and twist this into a legal application of 250.2a and say that United had the right to deny him boarding in the event of an overbooking; they did NOT have the right to kick him off the plane. Their contract of carriage highlights there is a complete difference in rights after you've boarded and sat on the plane, and Rule 21 goes over the specific scenarios where you could get kicked off. NONE of them apply here.

Not only was what United did in violation of their own policy, it was also illegal. They fucked up, they're pieces of shit, and that dude is going to get fucking paid out the ass.
>>
The best part is all the doinks saying this practice should end will then be crying when we pay more because they cannot fill planes due to no Yu shows.

They need every seat filled. And even then, coach makes them negligible profit. First and business class, and bouncing passengers when needed due to overselling for no shows, subsidize low ticket prices. And they are low. Europeans come to the US and are amazed at how low they are. Just like most things.

There would is no explaining this to today's human. People treat everything as a human right. It makes it easier to then treat everything unfair as a human rights abuse.

This guy is mental.
>>
for the life of me i can figure out why people give a fuck about this. how are the liberals gonna spin this when they find out he was taking advantage of women by trading drugs/prescriptions for sexual favors? the guy is an absolute shit bag.
>>
>>728850507
Actually he was taking advantage of a man for sexual favours.

But that has literally nothing to do with the way he was treated, so for a guy that doesn't give a fuck you've sure read a lot about who he is and his past.
>>
>>728850285
What the fuck are you talking about? Flights in the U.S. are expensive as fuck. I'm an Amerifag and spent 4 years living in the U.K. (2008-2012) and would get on flights to almost anywhere in Europe for about £30 each way. Show me U.S. domestic flights amazingly lower than that.
>>
All I care about is how Warren Buffet, maybe the one good billionaire out there who is donating 99% of his money on death to charity, is the largest shareholder of United

I'm guessing he had a nice call with the ceo this morning, which is why he apologized today

>>728850507
"liberals"
Many right wingers are taking issue with this as well.
Also, in what way is it relevant that we found out, after the fact, that he might have done something bad at some point? Hell, he could have been selling drugs to little children a day before this happened, that wouldn't change anything because it's not about the guy but rather about how he was treated and that it could have hit anyone in economy class.
>>
>>728846332
it's probably the way the airline handled the situation. they literally could have asked the next guy or given more compensation. instead it had to be that dude. there's no point arguing with someone acting out like that. or maybe he really had somewhere to be.

your post doesn't even make sense, "it's not uncommon". really, its not uncommon for people to be dragged off airplanes? thats normal for you? How the fuck are people putting up with airlines who would commonly overbook and have to yank people off the plane?
>>
>>728851224
>it could have hit anyone in economy class
werent there three other people who got off without causing a commotion? arent there thousands of americans bumped from flights every year with no issue? the dude thought he had the right to be on the plane, when in reality they can bump him off and owe him compensation if they cant get him to his destination within an hour of the original arrival time.

Neither side is righteous in this situation.

It's his fault for resisting orders he agreed to comply with when he bought a ticket. He should have been beaten shitless and thrown out the back door where no one will help him and he can walk his bleeding ass home to ZERO media attention, like he'd whipped out his dick at a strip club. It's no goddamn different and he's a fucking loser. At absolute best he's entitled to a refund of the ticket price, though in my opinion he should be charged with multiple counts of assault by an Air Marshal and fined at least $10,000.
>>
>>728852222
wasted quads.
>>
>>728851746
because the airline has to pay you 4x the ticket price if they make you more than 2 hours late, so they will ask for volunteers to get off in return for free hotel stays, flight vouchers and hundreds of dollars cash. some people intentionally buy tickets on flights that are overbooked so they can volunteer to be put on a later flight in exchange for free shit.

He did have a right to be on the plane. If you have a reserved confirmed seat, as he did, they can only bump you, by company policy and the fucking law, if the plane is overbooked. It wasn't overbooked, it was just full, and they wanted paying passengers who were already seated to deplane to accommodate 4 of their employees who weren't crew on that flight.
>>

>>
>>728851932
And you think when they are looking for people to "voluntarily" give up their seat they should pick someone and literally drag them off the plane if they refuse to go? Also, this shit usually happens BEFORE you board the fucking plane, you get notified that the flight was overbooked, they try to get you there anyway and you get compensated. This shit escalated because they decided last minute that 4 of their employees apparently needed to be on that plane.
They put their employees over their paying customers, and now there is a consumer backlash. That's just how it goes.

>>
>>728855359
As a private company they are within their rights to forcibly disembark a passenger but the passenger must be reimbursed 200% - 400% of their ticket price and be given a new flight to their destination.

The dude was asked to leave, part of a group of 4 randomly selected by a computer in order to seat employees for the flight and he refused. Police Department was called in, he was given a lawful order to leave and he refused. They physically moved him after that by picking him out of his seat and he smacked his face off of the tiny compartment of the plan, I think the seat head rest in front of him and thus he has a busted face. (More than before).

He got fucked up because he was a dumb ass.

>>728852937

United can do whatever it wants within the confines of your agreement to use their service and I would be you a million bucks it says that it says you will comply with employee instructions.

You guys are acting like he chained himself to some ancient redwood to prevent it from being cut down, this isn't even a remotely legitimate form of protest. He should have explained his needs, let them fail and then responded to their failure to carry out something they agreed to do. He could boycott them, he could get other doctors to boycott them by calling them unreliable, he could sue them. That's what you do when a business wrongs you in our society, you don't fight with them and you don't complain about the repercussions of doing something entirely illegal. "

What's stupid about this is it defames the entire act of breaking the law to resist something unfair, you know, like chopping down the giant redwood tree or something actually important. If you're going to bring that down to "muh airline seat" you endanger the entire moral outlook of civil disobedience. Then again, non-violent resistance doesn't seem to be in the leftist wheelhouse anymore, does it? I mean, I see this attempt at economic warfare by the left - that's what this is, you took a meaningless incident and did your fake news to fuck with one of "Drumpf's" precious American Job Creators. But now that much more care and money will be spent keeping incidents out of the public eye. If they knew it would cost them $600m do you think he would have walked out of there alive and unthreatened?

You're a retard. It wasn't overbooked. If it was overbooked then you would find out at the gate. United were fucktards and decided it was a good idea to pull paying customers off that have already been seated and replace them with their own employees.

Furthermore, if it was somehow unknowingly overbooked then the final people to board would be denied not passengers who were already seated on the plane.

Also, it looks like United broke their contract when removing a legal paying customer who has been seated.

Educate yourself.
>>
Rule 21 of the United Airlines Contract of Carriage lists the specific scenarios for which one can be denied transport and removed from the plane. None of them apply here. UA violated the contract, not the passenger.

when 911 happened, they obviously updated their policies because now people are scared about going on planes.
they either dont change policies and risk the airline to go bankrupt, or change and only hurt sales for about a 3 weeks, like you said.

I can tell you that it more than likely has nothing to do with mismanaging employees. Any number chain of events could have happened that caused them to have to rearrange flight crews: broken aircrafts, international travel, time issues, and even sick calls. Its very easy to get angry when you don't understand how a certain system works.

Even so, the argument of "if they didn't kick these people off several flights would have to be canceled" is still incorrect.
If they didn't kick these people off they simply would have had to spend more money to ensure those flights happened.
They're not the good and wise people deciding to incenvenience 4 people in order to make sure several hundred people can take their flight, they simply wanted to save money on it. They made a decision in order to save a few bucks, pissed off their customers and now they're experiencing a backlash. It's their owm fault and maybe they should have thought twice about it.

one of the main issues is that the airline was trapped in linear thinking

Must put 4 people on to get to Louisville. Must beat asian man senseless and drag his bleeding, concussed body off so our fantastic 4 can board.

Hire a van to drive them the 5 hours to louisville, and they make their flight.

Offer to hire a van and drive the 4 ejected people to louisville, you'll get there 3 hours late, nothing to worry about.

Airline is staffed by idiots. Gonna be writing a check to Mr. Asian man, and probably some of the snowflakes on the plane for their PTSD or whatever the fuck.

All totally avoidable.
>>
Imagine if the original redit post that brought light to this had read "Chicago airport security drags..." instead of "United Airlines drags..."

>>
>>728848493
They can deny service to anyone for any reason. They needed four people off to continue their business elsewhere. Nobody wanted off, so they randomly selected people. This guy at that point refused and was trespassing. Thats pretty black and white.

I was flying during Christmas from JFK to LAX on United. They'd overbooked the flight and pulled me aside to ask if I'd mind switching flights since I was flying alone. They offered me a $300 credit in exchange, which seemed like a sweet deal to a college student so I accepted.

Then they also called a private car to drive me to Laguardia to get a new flight from there. I ended up making the same connection in Denver that I was supposed to get, and got to LAX when I'd originally planned.

tl;dr: United overbooked my flight, gave me a new one as well as $300 at no major inconvenience to me.

For the most part I'd say they have great customer service, but they goofed this time.

Are you being purposely retarded?

It's got nothing to do with liberals, people is pissed at how this managed because the guy was kicked off a flight he paid for and brutallized, that's it.

And yes, the airline is to blame, the fucking CEO made a statement where actually blames the customer for how the situation developed, now he's taking it all back because United just lost a billion dollars after this statement was released.

So yeah, fuck United
>>
Maybe, just maybe, United might have had more luck if they hadn't violated federal law. Any flight that you are bumped from that puts you at your final destination 6 hours than your original arrival time is 4x face value of ticket up to 1350$. United's cheapest flight from Chicago to Louisville is 350$. So maybe they, you know, could've followed the law and offered the amount that was due instead of calling the cops. 800 =/= 1350.
