how? Invasion tunnels that haven't been discovered in 40+ years of careful monitoring? Highways that aren't covered by superior Sork artillery and armour? Magically escaping massive US and ROK aerial superiority, which includes A-10s?
I mentioned that the initial Nork arty spam would be bad, but the Norks' logistical tail is too vulnerable and counter-battery fire from the South too effective for that level of fire superiority to be sustained.
Yes, it would be bad, and this is why the South/US haven't initiated a war yet.
Economic ramifications would be severe initially but would work out in the long term - look at Germany today, 24 years after the grundgesetz. Yes, the East is still poorer, but integration has worked. In Korea the differences are such that the DMZ would need to be retained to stop the tides of Nork civilians trying to get South, but who's to say a people used to following orders wouldn't learn to live with the situation until enough reforms had been made to make reunification possible? With that population and raw material boost, it would be a huge shot in the arm for an already successful economy.

An attack wouldn't be foolproof, but the nuclear threat is overrated. The danger would be Nork conventional or even Chemical weapons hitting civilian areas (ie Seoul).

Prime example is the Red Army. A force which was so large that they couldn't kill them fast enough, regardless of the fact that many of the Red soldiers weren't properly armed or outfitted for war.

The biggest flaw in your comparison of East Germany to North Korea is in the economic ideology of the North. East Germany at least had something to offer, they manufactured, they produced and they were involved in exportation of goods.

North Korea on the other hand follows the philosophy of economic self-reliance. These niggers are stuck in an isolation-induced time warp. They produce very little that anyone wants, they have no practical experience in modern global trade AND their infrastructure is absolute shit.

The South Korean economy would COLLAPSE. It would likely never recover to its former greatness and the quality of life for all Koreans would drop significantly. The amount of money that it would take to build up the North into anything even slightly resembling the South would be astronomical.

attrition only works when the larger force is motivated. The KPA isn't, and it wouldn't be necessary to kill every single one of them - just like how Saddam's army was the 4th largest on earth in 1991 but "only" required an effective air campaign and about 3 days of strong armoured pressure to completely melt. From everything I know about North Korea, I can't say Seoul is perfectly safe, but I truly believe if we did a night strike (they are so primitive this would be a huge advantage) initially targeting the weapons they might use to attack the south first, and simultaneously targeting their local command centers to disrupt any coordinated retaliation in the opening moments, it would vastly reduce the chances of large casualties in South Korea. This would have to then be followed with an immediate bombardment of every other major threat, and then a ground invasion from multiple directions. But not one over the DMZ.

It would require the South Koreans and would be better off if the Japanese helped too, which would be likely.

We could pull it off the same way we overthrew Panama in a single night. Make it look like the same training exercises that have been going on for decades and then a full scale assault.

But I don't see it happening. It's too good. We can go off half cocked into Iraq, but this fucking perfect opportunity won't be exploited. Our nation is just too retarded for something so simple, easy, and right.


What we would end up doing is a half assed bombing run like we do in the middle east all the time, and then nothing will stop North Korea from retaliating against the South. The South will take it like a bitch and do nothing in return.
