It was such a shock my first night because I never really been away from home before. I cried my first night, I wanted to go home etc.

Those thoughts are natural, but you need to accept, you joined the Army for a reason and you need to use this experience to better yourself.

BMQ is 14 weeks. 12 in Garrison/Barracks, 2 on Exercise. Unlike Americans, Army/Air Force/Navy all do the same BMQ, and you'll get dudes from all three branches on the same course. After BMQ you do an additional 4 weeks that's focused on your branch, then you go off to your MOS training.

Oh actually, here is advice for way down the road. Life outside the Army is kind of a punch in the dick. When you leave they'll try to keep you by telling you how hard it is to find a job, how expensive housing , etc. You'll have been in your little Army world for so long you won't believe them, just like I didn't. Rent is a bitch, and unless you want to move to Utah and be a contractor, finding a decent job IS difficult.

But when you do decided to get out...if you decide...realize you're probably better than half the dipshits around you. You hang out with so many retarded people, you think civilians must be smarter. They aren't. I've had 2 regular ass minimum wage jobs since leaving, and I was the smartest person there, and worked the hardest. I recently got into a very, very competitive school, and it's a piece of cake. You just do your fucking work and pay attention. Just like the Army. All these fucking 18 year olds are too busy crying about the workload and trying to fit time in to go eat McDonalds. But you'll just study and do well.

Then about 2 weeks in i got used to the idea, and 3 weeks in i was glad i stuck it out. Basic is a piece of cake once you realize all you have to do is do what you're told, when you're told. Its just a mind game. They're just trying to determine if you can handle large amounts of stress, so they can weed out the ones that will break under pressure and keep the ones that won't
