Hey, /b/, what do you guys think the the afterlife is? What do you anons believe happens when we die?
>>
Nothing
>>
im a scientist working in Canada at the moment and i do a whole lot of sitting around talking about not really anything. this conversation comes up alot between me an my friend Ethan alot and he always insists on the following theory

1. Time is infinite
2. after the inevitable heat death of the universe a quantum collapse will eventually occur creating a new universe
3. eventually after who knows how long an exact replica of your brain before you died will be created and you will regain consciousness , since you were dead it will feel like no time has passed

well i dont know if i agree with him its an interesting theory
>>
>>728310783
Literally nothing happens. You dead.
>>
>>728310783
Exactly the same as before birth. Nothing at all. Just think about it, nigga
>>
>>728310783
There's no afterlife. Don't be a tard.
>>
>>728311241
A copy of you is still not you. You will be dead. Something else, will think it's you.
>>
>>728311241
That's fucking dumb. That means you carry on living in the blink of an eye in some other reality, albeit you're either paralyzed from that accident you vaguely remember or 86 by default.

What happens is nothing. Your ego and body die and something else gains the first person perspective
>>
>>728310783
Reborn in a new lifeform on a random universe/planet
>>
>>728310783
Lots of stuff happens. Not to you, though -- there won't be a YOU for it to happen to. You won't be aware of it, you won't be aware of not being aware; you won't exist at at all.
>>
>>728311711
What about split personalities and shit like that. Could be someone else's personality popping up.
>>
>>728310783
When you die your brain fires pretty much everything it has. This is what some interpet as the afterlife they see, in near-death cases. (Or they're fucking liars, who knows)

And then you're dead. You came from nothing and you go back to nothing. The chemical reactions in your brain cease and that's that.
>>
I'm more interested in before-life.

>>

I think you're correct.
>>
>>728311790
DID doesn't exist.
>>
>>728310783
There is absolutely NO reason to think there's something.
>>
If the universe, or existence, is infinite in anyway there must be an afterlife

What form it takes however, I do not know
>>
>>728312248
I think that consciousness is stuck in an endless loop. It is ever present.

Let go of your ego if you can. You're just part of this universe that think it's a sovereign being, well you are not. What you call YOU is just a form in the universe, that happens to be able to recieve stimuli from the rest of it, for a very short period. When this ends, all that you thought was YOU will fade, memories, emotions, knowing, thinking. But your existence will not, you'll be awareness of emptiness, awareness of form.
>>
>>728312018
if you break "life" down to it's simples it's electochemical reactions in your brain. Those stop and so do you.

>>
>>728312707
Everything with a brain or maybe even more primal senses is arguably conscious to some degree. If it moves and interacts with the world.
There is nothing after you die because there was nothing before it either.
>>
There is probably an afterlife. It's mathematically impossible that one would only be aware right now but never before or after this life. And, if one would "reincarnate", one would in essence get destroyed. Upon reincarnation the 'you' would get destroyed. Reincarnation would be the end of us and start of somebody entirely else who wouldn't give to f's about us, even if they'd somehow get their memories of us back...and I find that kind of scenario unlikely to be honest. Since hell is obvious religious bs to keep us in line, the only probable scenario in my mind is that there is an afterlife where people go. Probably another physical universe from which they run this simulation.

it isn't. Life is life.
Putting effort into something gets you temporary sense of success. Temporary sense of success can lead to temporary happiness.
Put effort in something for the sake of putting effort into it. Not for the reward it might bring.
The reward is just a bonus, but don't cling to it.
>>

Lol no im a marine biologists and hes a phytologist its not like when we are talking about this very seriously anyways XD

also are you sure about there not being anything after the death of the universe? im not positive but im pretty sure many people have talked about some sort of new creation event takeing place , a sort of false vacuum effect
>>
>>728311681
but if the exact brain synapses or whatever that make you as an individual are recreated, then what is the difference? Im no science wrangler, but i'd assume that an exact copy should be possible, at least in theory.
>>
>>728312422
While part of me hope that something like this is actually the case, I'm not convinced that consciousness is anything more than the weirdest evolutionary trait that nature could throw at us.

That would mean that what happened during that persons life, would have to replicated down to the smallest detail to get the same person.
They might be the same person in a broad sense, but they would be different through life experience.

>>
>>728314282
why? it stands to reason that the way your brain is "wired" for lack of a better term would be an end result of those experiences. So a perfect copy of that end result would be you right?
>>
>>728313872

yes. "after" and "before" are descriptors relating to time.

time is linked to space, and if there is no space, there is not time.

therefore you cannot have a time "after" space no longer exists because without space there is no "after"
>>
It will be exactly how it was before you was shot out of your mothers vag... absolute darkness for eternity
>>
>>728314420
That would imply a carbon copy of you as you've experienced life and thus the new version of you couldn't be born naturally, but would have to be made by some sort of technology.
Teleportation would be able to make a new you, but regular life as we understand it wouldn't work like that. Unless time is cyclical and no random changes happen at all.
>>
Life was a computer simulation all along and youve finally woken up, what do?
>>
>>728314438
i think you misunderstood what i said , when the universe experiences heat death time wont stop that whouldent really make any sense now would it?
>>
>>728314541
Fair enough. I was thinking more along the lines of teleportation anyhow, I feel like if the teleporter can create a perfect copy, the i see no dilemma in "dying" every time i use it.
>>
>>728314232
There are many big clues... This world, with its life, is full of impossible coincidences that are highly unlikely for a materialistic universe. The habitable zone et cetera. And then there is the paranormal. Think of paranormal as an adjacent "room" to this world -- our "room". Now, if there was nobody in the adjacent (paranormal) room, no one would "knock" from that room, but "knocking" (paranormal phenomena) does happen. Phoenix Lights, Battle of Los Angeles, Marian apparitions, supernatural magic, and all that point to there being something in that other room, i.e. the other side. I propose that the truth is scientific however.

The only issue with a new you is if you adhere to the notion of souls. How can a new individual have the same soul as the old one.
Personally I would love to have a recording device, that saved everything that constituted me in my brain and If I died, it would respawn me in a new body with the same memories to the exact point of my death.

Something has to percieve a world or its just eternity or nonexperience which is nothing more than a blink of an eye. The next thing that exists won't be (You) in a sense but everything is you because nothing is separate from the experience of reality including other individuals despite them thinking they are something other than just nature itself. That's the illusion of self.

If all beings on this planet were wiped out the thing that brought us here will keep doing so even if the things it creates are different than the ones before it. I see it as never ending creation and destruction with the only two options being extinction or evolve to become a god of some sort, but who knows maybe both options lead to the same thing.

>>
>>728310783
Seen from a realistic standpoint i'd say rebirth.

Your body is basically a whole being made out of bacteria and such, working together as one. DNA passed off by your parents and both your surroundings have created the you that you are. And will continue to do so with YOUR kids may you ever get them. This creates a streamlined process adapting your kin to their surroundings, better known as evolution. After death these cells will create new life by other bacteria feeding off your decaying corpse. How conscious you are is up to the organism that the bacteria chose to dip themselves into.
>>
>>728319828
So you consider a transfer of energy a sort of rebirth?

because there is no "nothing" . The universe is constantly evolving and forming something, you either become dust OR become another conscious being with no memory or "information" about the universe and learn about it by living.

At least that's what I believe.
