People with a bit of class that aren't autistic fucks tend to get to know the wait staff at their favorite restaurant, become known there as a good tipper and friendly person, and get treated generally better. If you tip well and talk to people, once they know you they'll start to discreetly push you to the front of the line so you don't have to wait 45 minutes for a table. They'll remember your favorite meals, pay attention to who is with you so when they see you come in with a new girl they don't go "where's the girl you came in with last week?" If something is off with your meal, they'll have the chef come out and talk to you, replace it if necessary.

Basically it comes down to how connected to the place you are. If you just expect your denny's waiter to bring you all of your shit for the 2 bucks an hour they get paid, expect your food to have spit in it. If you ever go somewhere that serves real food, the waiters can do a lot more than transit your meal and refill your drink.

The people that have never worked in a restaurant or for tips will never understand the ethics behind it.

If you can afford 40 dollars for food, you can chip in at least 3 fucking dollars to the person catering to your needs. You get paid double what you would as a busser or prep cook for doing a fraction of the work. I would much rather stand behind a desk doing nothing most of the time, occasionally organizing and stocking shit.
