Russia and China both want northern trade routes. Russia has gone so far as to dig up old US treaties and even used a sub to plant a flag on the North pole under the ice. Climate changing has opened up more northern trade for longer times of year so they're all vying for available shipping routes. This is one of the big reasons why the US has been pushing for more Navy.

Our Naval forces in the Pacific patrol a LOT of things. Trade routes around Alaska, the protect Japan, and since middle east, obviously there.

We're bound by treaty to protect South Korea, Japan, and Turkey. If you look at a map, all of that would make an enemy nervous.

Firstly, Japan (technically and according to their constitution) has no military. They are not allowed. We are their military. So, US is there.
Secondly, Korean war never officially ended. It was just a "cessation of hostilities" and a treaty with South Korea. The US has bases in South Korea and is treaty bound to protect South Korea and return with troops upon incident.
Turkey is part of NATO and Article 5(?) requires that we help if they declare war on Syria. (which they have essentially already done but just not officially)

China WANTS North Korea to exist because they don't want the US up in their business.

Turkey is Muslim.

Russia is bombing Syria (not to kill ISIS but because they have alterior motive that is unclear).

Japan is a landing pad and defenseless, but forces us to be omnipresent in the Pacific.
