Also good choices. Jerry was pretty much tapped out when he died, though. And Ludwig might have been, too.
>>727821304
I'm glad he fucking died, fucking edgelord ruined music and indie with his shitty grunge asswash that made everything else in the world today sound the same thanks to him
John Bonham

Bring them back now or bring them back so that they didn't die in their time period?
Eminem.
Dio so he could finish the Magica trilogy.

There was a magazine cover back in the '80s that asked "Is Dead God?". But Jerry was a lot more than just the cornerstone for the Grateful Dead. His traditional repertoire (old-timey, bluegrass, early jazz) was phenomenal. He even cut a children's album in Spanish. He even made Bob Dylan listenable.
>>727821814

>>727825577
Sorry, but it's true. OP's implicit question was "which composer's trajectory was cut short by death", not "who is your favorite musician". Okay, so you liked him but Mozart was pretty much tapped out when he died. Maybe ten more redundant symphonies, maybe a couple more feel-good operas. The reason that Beethoven went nuts was because classicism had run its course.

Let me tell a Zappa story, then. He went to my school (really!) and he had become famous by the time I was there, so we heard about him at second-hand.
Zappa went to high school in eastern Los Angeles County. That part of his background is a little confused, but most likely a public school in Upland or Pomona. He heard that there was a composer in residence in Claremont from the Schoenberg School, and he liked modernists such as Varèse, so he contacted the music department and asked if he could arrange a private tutorial with Karl Kohn.
The tutorial didn't work out. It was like the interaction between Schoenberg and John Cage. (Both Germans insisting that the student follow orders and both students insisting that the teacher guide and facilitate.) Zappa stayed in the area, working musically with what he could find, and he kept in touch with the more friendly members of the faculty such as Bill Russell, the department chairman.
Bill told me that Zappa landed a job writing the soundtrack for a pornographic movie that was shot in an empty warehouse in Upland. (This was in the 1960s, when porn was shot on film and shown in seedy theaters.) One day the entire production crew was arrested for pornography, everyone but Zappa. He managed to avoid arrest because of his habitual tardiness. He showed up half an hour late, saw all the squad cars, and split.
You will find Karl Kohn mentioned in that long list on the liner notes to Lumpy Gravy.

Which is more likely.... that Mozart WASN'T likely to create more incredible and innovative music had he lived longer, or some guy on the internet has a really stupid opinion that he firmly believes is correct even though it isn't?
HMMMMMMMMM.
>>727830132
I tend to agree, except for those unnecessary superlatives. I discounted Dallapiccola for having said that mostly because I am very fond of Vivaldi. I like your Mozart, too, so do calm down.
