I generally feel more sorry for animals being killed. As they do what instinct tells them, although they do have far more intelligence and emotion than we give them credit for. And generally aren't the conscious assholes that people are. I don't get any pleasure from a person dying painfully though, unless they really deserve it, even then it's not really pleasure, more a sense of justice.

I feel the same way, OP. I used to choke cats and kill animals, and feel absolutely nothing when I saw a human die, but now I feel a flicker of sadness when I see an animal die. I just think they didn't deserve it. They were innocent, and they never knew what they did.
