I'm not talking about the acting perse more the character (although I did enjoy the actor as well). Picard, Janeway, and most similar captains of his time weren't exactly "decisive" nor did they assist in designing my favorite ship (The Defiant) designed specifically for fighting the Borg. Unlike the manslut Kirk he was generally reserved but he knew how to have a good time. Towards the end of the series they show his military skill and ingenuity. Plus he knew how to out Ferengi the Ferengi and dammit I respect that.

That was a big part of it, also the story had a different dynamic as they were stationary. Then there's the Emissary role which grows into some interesting/weird stuff. I also honestly LOVED the war, they had the most space action by far and it was often/usually Sisko or his boy Worf. One of the main reasons I love him is in the later seasons when he has a Romulan Diplomat over DS9 and the tailor gets involved; that's all I'm saying about that episode but dammit it was fantastic.

Picard was in my opinion made the best Captain.

That being said, Archer is objectivly the best captain. He had the hardest job, he was the pioneer that led the way for the others as well as being instrumental in forming the Federation.

Janeway is the worst, in her defense she was also thrown in the deepend. However, she made some really dumb decisions that caused a lot of issues for her crew and the races they encoutered.

Kirk was the first, and an archetype, but his 'acting' style was thin unconvincing and overblown.

Janeway made me wish that her ship would get thrown farther into the delta quadrant where we would never hear from her again.

Archer...well, he and his series just sucked. Potential was there-the raw, first-time ever doing something, but the whole time travel genetically augmented bullshit. Just terrible.

Sisko had an interesting role, since he didn't go places, but places came to him. Kind of a reversal of the norm. Probably the best overarching storylines that they had.

Picard was picard. Great actor in a solid role.

So, I'd say Picard>Sisko>>>archer>>>Janeway,

with Kirk not rated since he was simultaneously the best and worst of the group.

TNG is by far my favorite. Second is Voyager. DS9 had some decent episodes but yeah, Kira annoyed the fuck out of me. Lots of ugly faces on that show too. OG series is cool to watch for a vintage feel every now and then.

I tried to get into Enterprise when I finished DS9 and Voyager but the theme song sucked so bad I just could deal with it every time before the show so I bailed and went back to watch TNG again. Just finished it a second time. Probably gonna do a third. It's great to watch before bed.

Picard is the best captain hands down.

In TNG, everything turns out ok, and they ride off into the sunset. In DS9, they live in a fixed location with complicated politics, and they have to deal with the consequences of their actions long term. TNG was kind of like superman, and DS9 was kind of like batman. In TNG, everyone has the same ideals and morals, and they follow them as closely as possible. In DS9, they have a multitude of cultures and races with very different attitudes and beliefs, and they have to somehow get along with each other. This aspect of the show is what made DS9 superior in my opinion. You had the Federation (liberals), Bajorans (spiritual), Ferengi (capitalists), Klingons (warlike), Cardassians (Totalitarian). All these races with conflicting beliefs uniting to defend themselves from the Dominion. Everyone on TNG got along so well. On DS9 they had to work through their differences, which made for interesting, cerebral television. Much of the later part of the series explored forcing people to abandon their principles for a greater cause. It was a much darker and grittier show than the positive, optimistic TNG, hence the Superman/Batman comparison. Overall, DS9 had its strengths and weaknesses. The Bajoran religion was interesting when it was about how it affected their social interactions, but when they focused on religion itself, it wasn't as engaging. The set was astounding. There were always lots of creative alien races hanging around, (it was a public space station in a commercial hub, think Mos Eisley.) They writers never seemed to run out of ideas, though some were better than others. All in all, a decent show I recommend any star trek fan to check out.
