The quickest degree to get is an associates which you can get in 2 years at a community college. Bachelors is 4 years, Masters is 6. PhD varies. Community college credits can be transfered to state within certain programs, at least in my (SHIT) state, California.

So that figure isn't necessarily the figure need for optimal happiness. Owning a house for example, not necessarily the best idea, but that does increase your need for a higher income.
