I was 18 in 2002. Geocities was no longer a thing, neither was Tripod or Lycos. They reached their popularity more around 1998-2000.

AOL Instant Messenger was by far the more preferred way to communicate, 2nd to email. I didn't have a cell phone and most of my friends didn't so texting wasn't much of a thing at that time. Myspace didn't become popular for another two years.

Formats died much quicker back then. Like today most people are still on facebook after a decade. Back then trends were much more temporary.

While there was plenty of forums I remember there was a lot more community oriented websites, which facebook groups have since replaced.

I remember that is also around the same time I got a DVD player. I got a GameCube in December of 2001. So during 2002 both of those technologies were very new and rather novel.

I got my first digital camera in December of 2000 and my second in October of 2001. My second camera was a Nikon Coolpix 775. It was a 2 mega pixel camera which was considered middle of the road between a 1 mega pixel and a 3 mega pixel (of that era the camera was called the Nikon Coolpix 990, I ended up getting one several years later). Very few people had a digital camera at this time and the idea of being able to see a picture after you took it was incredibly novel. I took a lot of pictures of my daily life in high school and college. Its weird to go back and look at 'good' photos of people who were 16 and 17 and are now in their early 30s.
