ITT: Underrated movies

Here, I'll start.
>Prometheus is a fucking awesome, very intellectual movie that is over the head of the common pleb
>>
>>726097147
agree with this 100%

inb4 "the effects were amazing but everything else sucked."
>>
Intellectual?

When they get to the planet, the cringiest thing the "scientists" did was never take any safety precautions.
Dude, even todays scientists would be like, "theres an alien spacecraft! Lets get all our testing tools and take the safe route."
In Prometheus: " whoa there an alien spacecraft! Let go in it now! Screw all our important safety gear and instruments that allow us to scan it from a safe distance."

Its a move that says, "even if you're smart.. You're still dumb. Get killed by an Alien, you faggot!"

Shitty and overused concept, sfx were so so at best and it made for a very ridiculous origin story for the xenomorphs. Could'v been good, but went fucking off the mark by putting too many phases on the fucking xenomorph adaptation to other lifeforms.

You only need 2 fucking phases, anything more than that is a major waste and no creature would ever thrive if their biological evolutionary processes had too many stages.

Retarded movie...
>>
>>726097147
>Prometheus is a fucking awesome, very intellectual movie that is over the head of the common pleb

That's what I'd expect a fedora wearer to say.

I did like Prometheus. Everytime I see a thread or talking about this film all they have to say its about the humans doing stupid things. And all that part its obviously just mainstream things for average people "look they acted stupid, lol no helmet, Im going to touch this thing"

Prometheus its a lot more than that.
>>
>>726097147

Mary Poppins.

It's whimsical, magical, and just darn good fun.

Mary Poppins.

Best.
Movie.
Ever.

>"Intellectual"
>Arrive at alien planet in some faraway star system
>"We're half-a-billion miles from Earth."
>That's the distance to Jupiter.

That movie is intellectual to 13-year-olds.

not op here, He is right, you are a pleb for thinking this movie is smart in any way

Why do people get hung up on the "scientists" not taking safety precautions. If movies accurately portrayed other professionals taking real life safety precautions, every military/war/police-crime movie or tv show would be so horribly boring and the story would never move fast enough to hold anyone's attention.

I think Prometheus can be thought of as "intellectual" because the movie does not have easy answers about the aliens/engineers/human behavior. These are subjects that are inherently complex. I think the movie is "intellectual" because it encourages more questions.

I'm actually a biologist, more specifically a microbiologist. What that guy said is true. It made no sense at all and no matter where in the universe you are, certain rules will still aply and no being could ever thrive if dependant on a 5+ stage adaptation mechanism to its environment. It would go extinct easily.
>>
>>726097147
total disappointment. Explain why it's intellectual and better than the original Alien film.
>>
>>726098969
>"adaptation mechanism"

You mean reproductive cycle? You aren't a biologist. You don't have a degree.

Hint for all the kids in the thread who think they are super smart: The xenomorphs are a designed organism and are not supposed to be able to survive naturally, dumbasses.
>>
>>726098328
But its not particularly underrated

I suppose you could argue its popular for the wrong reasons. A lot of girls fawn over the Holly Golightly character and look at to her as a source of inspiration for being independent and spending your life teasing men and sleeping around, when its obvious that if Holly continued down that path it would lead a life of increasingly temporary thrills and eventually a life without meaning or happiness

This.

Enjoyed the creation concept but everything that transpired after was rehashed nonsense.

The idea that humans already visited that craft and Charles Theron is underneath it completely ruins the haunting vibe of the first Alien movie. The behavior of some of the characters wasn't consistent.

And Wtf was up with guy Pierce as an old man?.!.. it was high school play production value..

The next movie looks like an Alien&Aliens best of.. fucking series has been spent ever since Aliens.
>>
>>726097147
The opening to Prometheus makes more sense than evolution.
>>
>>726099477
Give the new one a shot, we don't know yet.
Inconsistencies in character behavior in prometheus is due to cut scenes, but that doesnt excuse it. movie could've been a lot better. guy pierce makeup was not good enough.

Put into more natural human terms,
Prometheus is a film about the identity shock and termoil and growing up discovering your parents aren't your real parents and you are adopted.
The search for your biological family reveals the sad truth why they dumped you in the first place

Three things would have made this movie much better: did same basic googling before rattling off technobabble (half a million miles from Earth, really? That puts you just passed Jupiter), reshot the scene where they ran from the rolling engineer ship, and ditched the writer from Lost.

I'm excited for his next alien film which is Less then three months away.

1) they didn't know it was a spacecraft at first, only an improbable natural phenomena that needed further investigation.

2) there were precautions, including mapping in-real-time and life-scanning "pups" to ensure their safety.

3) they were betrayed by a cyborg whose motive was a secret up until the almost very end.

It's just that people with no education (you) can't seem to take the time to think unless Hollywood gives you a piece of rancid shit like "Gravity", where astronauts defy basic common sense laws of gravity because it looks good on screen.
>>
>>726103090
They obviously knew it was not a natural phenomenon.
>>
>>726097147
But they never every try to solve anything. That's the problem with the movie. It was promoted as the answers to life's mysteries but it didn't solve shit. Also the new movie looks like just another standard Alien film, The Engineers are dead so why did it give that tag line if the story was going to go in another direction? That's why it sucked.
>>
>>726098230

Scene was to highlight in comedy how a slightly less scientific person sees "35 light years".

To give you an idea, the movie says "35 light years".

One light year is over 5 trillion miles.

I think it's great though. Calls out all the faggots regurgitating Jew-media criticism. It's hard to think on your own.
