OP, listen to me: whatever you do, get AIRBORNE in your contract. It's not a hard school whatsoever, it's not that much extra money ($150/month extra), but if you are not airborne, people will talk shit about you your entire military career, be it 2 years or 20. Non airborne qualified people are looked down upon. If you're looking at an MOS that the recruiter says he can't get you Airborne in your contract for, do NOT take that MOS. It's that simple.

One other piece of advice: P. Fucking. T. The people who score the highest on PT in any company, will get their pick of assignments and the best treatment. They evaluate people on all kinds of shit supposedly, but the reality is that PT scores are a huge deal in Army life.

There are a bunch of workout programs available online and you should find them and get started on that now. The key thing though is consistency. Work on that shit every fucking day now, and after you are in. The better you do on PT, the better those assholes will make your life.

I went full retard and became a 31B. I reclassed to 31K military dog handler. It was pretty good while I was in.

I live in a very liberal city so I didn't have much opportunity for a good career outside of the military. I got refused from the local police force because my talents where "too high" for them. Which is complete bullshit.

Becoming a dumbass 11b in this age is fucking stupid. It doesn't translate out of the military and anyone who says so is fucking retarded.


Anything that teaches a trade skill, or opens up government pathways is excellent.

Take school after your BCT/AIT and get it done. Most people don't take the opportunity to use it and leave it for their children.

Having a clearance job is preferable and looks good on a resume. Going to different schools (airborne, air assault, ranger, sapper, sniper) will earn you most of the time a promotion.

I did air assault after my AIT, I got completely fucked by my recruiter after I believed that a air assault seat was "claimed" by me. Me and him had different fucking versions of the word "claimed".
