IT is what I have the most experience with. I don't have a degree, and do alright. Also pretty damn easy to freelance, especially if you work for small offices that can't afford a full time IT person. You can do networking, computer repair, and if you are decent at it write a bit of code.

If you're in the US, try to get a job with a state uni. Even if you are a groundskeeper or in maintenance. A lot of times if you are an employee you can take a certain amount of credits per semester for free. You have to pay for books, and if you fuck up you have to pay it back (just the class you fuck up, not all of it). So there's some good accountability there.

Degree? I'm a 42 year old factory mechanic making $26 an hour. No degree here, but I regret not going to college. It does open a ton of doors. Just choose something that has value. Also, trade schools are a good decision. Not everyone can be a programmer, artist or engineer. There will always be a need for those who get their hands dirty in repair or construction.

Marriage? Not necessary, but if you find someone whom you can't live without... its nice to be married. I've been married for almost 15 years. It takes work and compromise, but it can be a great thing.

I got married, but it's a coin flip and really depends on who you are a sa person. i think it suits some people very well, others not so much. know yourself and make a good decision.

I've found people married for more than a decade describe the marriage in neutral terms. It's not something they care to change, but it's not something they brag about either. I don't advise avoidance, but one should lower one's expectations.

Wisdom: I see lots of shithead kids flunk out of school because they don't want to be there. They enroll because they think it's expected or whatever. These kids are usually clueless as to what they want to do and are therefore completely unfocused in class. Unfocused in college is a really bad thing for your future.

Beer and pussy is a truly wonderful combination, but going into huge debt to flunk out and have no job prospects is fucking stupid.

Go to a Junior/Community college. Get the 'advanced high school' shit out of the way. Figure out what you want to do with your life. Or, failing that, find something that pays the bills that you can tolerate. Then decide if more education debt is worth it. (It's probably not.)

"Find your passion" is some tumblerina-level horseshit. Find what you can tolerate. Find what's gonna get you what you want in life.

I have a friend who grew up dirt poor, farming tobacco in Kentucky. He's a doc now. Hates it. Loathes his disgusting patients. But he wanted his kids to never know want, so he makes a fortune doing something he hates. Passion is shit. Find what will get you what you want.

To do it well you are forced to learn how to write well, even if it is fan-fiction. After you learn a few techniques, and with a fair bit of practice and study, you will approach your reading differently. You'll be amazed when you finally see how the pros manage it. One may become a successful writer. At the very least it will greatly increase your enjoyment of reading.

Most important thing in life is to sell yourself because no one else will do it for you. Show confidence even though you may not have all the knowledge/experience required in any situation.

I've known a lot of people who have done some sort of life change, often for less money. None have regretted that decision. We all regret waiting so long and losing precious years.

I bailed on my Philosophy degree after six years of taking full time classes dicking around among physics, economics, and philosophy majors.

The nail in my first college career's coffin was a 100-level argumentative writing class I had to take and the prof gave me a C, lol.

Just getting my head on straight and diminishing my ego a bit would've served me better than going straight to college and wasting $50k.

Things worked out. I own two small businesses that provide my wife and two-kids-plus-a-third-on-the-way with a comfortable three-percenter income that allows us to send our kids to private school.

I promised myself I'd go back and get a mathematics degree (I'm Asian and I enjoy it, lol) before our son graduates high school.
