You can have more debt than currency. The currency has to make a few cycles through the system to balance the books but worrying about the money supply is kinda going off on a tangent. Having enough money in the system is important, but you don't want to much otherwise it loses its value.

The reason I say it's unmanageable is because our currency could loose it's position as the world's reserve currency. Right now re print money and pay our debt/ interest. If we keep going down the same road more countries will continue to phase out of using the dollar to trade. For example if South Korea buys chop sticks from Japan they typically use dollars to pay for them. More and more of the larger countries are making agreements to use other currencies for trade. If we continue to look like incompetent babies with our money, these countries will continue to go for other currencies. Then we would have actually pay our debts off instead of inflate our own currency.
