Thats because planes fly in a grid pattern. Take a look at air traffic maps and you will see those trails line right up with ordinary commercial flights. Contrails are as old a jet aviation. They appear all time and have never harmed anyone. They are too high to do anything if they where chemicals. They would be so dispersed and weakened by the time they got to the ground they would do nothing. That is why crop dusters make passes at 100 feet above ground so the chemicals actually get to the ground on on their target. Those trails are so high up they will actaully never hit the ground before evaporating.
